I was just a little disappointed when I got this. I tore it down, checked all the seals and washers, reassembled it and it hit me- there was NOTHING to fettle. It looks very gently used with what appeared to be new seals. |imgRemoved| All I have left to do is replace the air hose (no rush) and figure out what pan or bowl I a am going to "engineer" into a windscreen. Many, many thanx to those who post how to's or I would still be trying fettle my stoves without breaking something.
Hi, Ralph, Hearty congratulations on your "new" Firefly stove!! It's always been a favorite of mine, and as long as you only use Coleman fuel in it, and do not try to make it burn kerosene, or any other heavy fuel, it should serve you well. Your stove is the original version of the Firefly, and the only cautions I can offer is three-fold: 1 - make sure to keep a close eye on your fuel hose, as it's made of rubber, and many times would crack and leak from the ends! It can also melt in the center if you use your FF without the proper windscreen (which shielded the fuel hose from excess heat); 2 - Use tapered pots, like those from the Optimus Trapper, if you get the original windscreen, as those pots fit the screen better, and work better than squared off pots do. 3 - Be very careful not to overwork your yellow pump. I love those older pumps, and rebuild them, when possible. But, the plastic MSR used on those pumps, and most especially the oldest ones, can, and WILL crack on you, if you work the pump too hard!! Can you say, "INSTANT FIREBALL"!!!! I actually had the fuel line on my first Firefly (I have four of them, now) replaced by MSR, with the newer brass-covered fuel line that they still use to this very day. The used to do that sort of thing for $30, if memory serves, but unfortunately, no longer offer that option for older stoves. You might be able to seek out a replacement fuel line (NOS), and make the retrofit yourself, should you choose to do that. Have fun with your new FF, and again, well done on scoring it!!! Nice find. Be careful if you ask Cascade Designs for assistance. Last time I asked them about my Firefly they offered me a discount on a new stove and would 'destroy' the firefly free of charge. If you do work on the fuel pickup tube, BE CAREFUL NOT TO LOSE THE TEFLON DISK. I made a windscreen out of a pan I got, I posted it HERE . Ken in NC
Doc, I used your posts to disassemble the pump and check it out. My dad taught me to put tools and parts that go sproing into a large clear plastic bag when taking them apart. You can see what you are doing and little parts can't go too far. I use gallon ziplock bags. Thanx again for your how-tos. Snwcpr, I saw your post and it gave me some idea As to what I will need.
Does anyone know where to find a replacement jet or which msr jet will fit. Mine burns very well but I like having a spare or two just in case.
Hi, Ralph, If you have an older MSR X-GK, the "X-G" jet will work in your FF. MSR "might" still offer the "X-G" jets, to give them a shout, and score a few, if they do sell them. I hope that helps you some, but if not give me a shout. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Thanx, doc. I will try them. Also I was a mechanic for 18 yrs so I am confident about changing the fuel line with brass or steel braided line. I retired 2 yrs ago after driving truck for 20. And really enjoy the time to play with new toys. Always good to keep my hands busy.

I did get jets from Cascade Designs a few years ago. The old obsolete ones. You could call and ask them.
Got a package from cascade designs yesterday. They sent an xg and xk jet free! Slight difference from the original. The threads don't go all the way up. It fits perfect and works a treat. That is true customer service. The original is on the right.
