Bonjour @Yannick Michel that is an interesting stove, you are going about everything the right way. Alcohol is hygroscopic, meaning it tends to have an affinity or absorb moisture or, even humidity right out of the air. I don't know how much of a concern phase separation of a naptha/alcohol mix in a stove might be. Does anyone know why a gasahol fuel mix was contemplated or used? Postwar scarcity or something? Straight Naptha would be preferable over alcohol or auto gas or anything else. It never goes bad, at least not in my experience. Alcohol fuels (in the tank) would tend to trash rubber gaskets prematurely, maybe. Avoid if possible, seems to me. I've found the jet pricker isn't needed very often, if ever, but if it is needed, you'll need it very badly. Can you see through the jet orifice right now? If so, I wouldn't worry about it for the moment. A "light" gauge acoustic guitar string - the high "E"; is just under 0.23mm and serves well for the purpose, until a special genuine, authentic bespoke pricker can be obtained It should work for larger jet orifice, too. This isn't rocket science (well ... kind of) but it is important not to alter the characteristics of the jet orifice, they are a precision component and scratches or gouges invisible to the eye may adversely alter flow characteristics.
Hello @Fettler Thank you for your message. First sorry for my late answer. I will use only white gaz. I own a few alcool stove which are made for this ( White box stove, Trangia burners). I tried to remove the dirt from the jet burner but I did not succeed. I can’t see nothing through the orifice. I have ordering a small needle in stainless steel of 0,2 mm. I hope it will work. Yannick
If you know any musicians, a high E guitar string (or an E mandolin string) is the correct diameter. ….Arch
Thanks Arch. i bought a cleaning needle for printer on AliExpress. There are different sizes. I ordered the 0,2 mm diameter.
Well I received the needles of 0,2 mm but impossible to clean the jet with it.... I’m afraid I have to buy a new jet (2502). Yannick
Finally ordered a new jet from Fogas.se. I hope this Primus 71 will work after having changed the gasket and the jet ! Yannick
I received the new jet. The stove seems to work correctly but there was some yellow and green flames at the beginning. And some soot left on the bell after a few minutes. I will try this night to see exactly the color of the flame. Yannick
Yannick The green will be from the copper salts burning off. If you give the stove a good prime with alcohol and let the stove burn for a while, the flame should improve. My test is to get the stove going, then boil some water in a clean pot. If there’s no soot on the bottom of the pot that can be removed by wiping your finger over it, the stove is working fine. Cheers Tony
Hello from France Tony, Thank you for these advices. indeed it seems the green flames has disappeared now. I will give a try with a pot this evening and see if there is some snoot under the pot. I also wonder if it would not be better to remove the part in the tulip which normally was used with the other fuel ??
Yes the first I fired it, it was in the wrong position and it seems to work badly. Fully opened, it was better. Thank you Tony.
Perhaps if we are forced to use gasoline/ alcohol mixtures with a high alcohol content. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Is it normal that the top of the tulip became red quickly ? I don’t want to see this stove exploded ! On the photos, it was my last try and curiously the flame is not blue like my first try this morning.
That pot looks good! Usually the flame will get bluer after a good run; and will burn cleaner with the pot in place. It is normal for the flame plate to become red like that. Cheers Tony
