Hi all I don't know how this happened again being a lampie Another stove arrived in the mail (Thanks a lot Magnus!! ) Is a Radius No42 with the original tin case. I far as I know it should use White gas and needs pre-heating with alcohol. Looks like a neat stove and I will check it out when I get home today Questions ? Are the jets available? And where I can find replacements? How is it on the performance side? What are the missing tools/parts/accessories that should go on the tin side? As this looks like a neat small stove I would love to use regularly on backpacking hikes.
Hey, Doron, Congratuations on getting a neat little stove! These guys work very well, and are wonderful to use. Mine came with a blowtorch attachment, which screws on where the burner bell usually goes. It's used to melt wax for skis. Here's a photo. And, a shot of the case, all closed up, just for fun. When I found mine, it had been filled with the most foul smelling liquid you can imagine! I have NO idea what it might have been. But, after rinsing out the tank with Meths a few times, and then filling it with clean Coleman fuel, the 42 fired right up, and burned with a vengence!! Great stove, and I know you will love yours!! Have fun, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hi Doc Thanks for the update, I see a difference between the stove as yours have a filler cap on top and mine is in the bottom. is that a model difference or difference in manufacture years? can anyone estimate the year of production of my stove? I am sure I am going to give it a try tonight
Hey, Doron, I don't know for certain, but I'd bet that the bottom-filling stoves are much older than is mine. Maybe Ian could weigh in on this one, as I believe that he owns some that are filled from the bottom, as is yours. In any case, a very nice stove, and I will look forward to reading your report, when you've had a chance to use yours. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Good evening Doron! I am sure that you enjoyed your early christmas present from me! =) Radius No 42 stoves is running on gasoline and you don't need to (if you din't want to) pre-heat the stove with red spirit since you just need to hold your hands around the stove so it became a little bit warm so the fuel can go up to the burner and then down to the spiritcup. I do that everytime when me and my father shall light up one of thease small stoves like Primus No 71, Radius No 42 etc and it works very good! I am 99% sure that your stove Doron who has the filling cap under the tank is older then Mark's stove. Now you just need to clean it up and fill some gasoline and then light it up. We're waiting for some "running photos" of the stove =) Best Regards Magnus
as promised images from the stove test and there is no real test with out something coming out of it in the mean time: and the outcome: \ \
Morning, Doron, WAY cool, Lad!! Great photos, and great results from your new 42!! Also, I love the fact that you're already using one of the photos as your new Avatar!! Great deal, all around! Congrats on getting one fine little stove, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hey Doc, So that blow torch that came with the stove is origianl equipment right? I have also seen a lantern or mantle attachment. I think it was broken because If I remember right it looked like part of an Aladdin lox-on mantle. Has anyone else seen more accesories for the 42? I just picked up an older one with the fuel cap on the bottom. Any idea on how to figure out the manufacture date? Chuck
Hey, Chuck, Yeah, the blow-torch attachment was original equipment with that stove, and if you check the Radius 1950's catalog info, here at CCS, you can see a photo of the blow-torch in action. The parts page shows the torch, too, along with the normal spares you would expect to see. If you check the 1932 catalog info, I think you'll see your stove, which is the same one that Doron received. Though I can't tell for sure, it appears to me that the stove they illustrate using, has a bottom filling setup. Also, that lamp accessory you have is in that earlier catalog, too, Chuck, so you got an early stove, with a rare accessory!! Cool!! I found my Radius 42 stove in a little town called Temecula, which is about 40 miles South of us. They have an "antique row", which is actually pretty good. One seller has one of the very best "old tools" sections I've ever seen, and it was there that I found my Radius. I seem to remember that it was priced at around $38, but they were also having a "10% off sale" happening that day, too, so I got it a little cheaper than that. Interestingly enough, the same seller had a SVEA 123 for sale that day, too. It was going for a little more money, and didn't have it's flame spreader, nor it's key, nor one of the pot support legs. Last time I was there, a few weeks ago, that little SVEA was still sitting there, unloved, and unbought! Congrats on securing an early Radius 42 Chuck, and you, too, Doron!!! Great finds, both of you! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hello, Doc, I wish I had the lantern attachment! I have only seen one and it was incomplete. It would be nice if we could get someone to make a few of the pieces that sit over the jet in place of the burner plate. Chuck
