Thanks to all that replied. I have now had the burner brazed with a bronze filler wire. At my old work you brazed with silver solder as silver solder was only the type of filler wire and if you didn't mentioned what type of filler wire when you said you were brazing then that always meant that you were using a bronze based wire. Cheers everyone and I now know to change my terminology when talking about brazing/soldering
I'll go with that description too, and an oxy-acetylene flame is what I'd happily use to silbraze/silver solder with if I had a set, but I use a MAPP blowtorch. Silver-solder contains brass of course, but with over half (just about) being silver.
Another success story, glad you found everyone's advice helpful. At least getting the confidence quickly for best workable solution. I'm sure most members have learned the hard way doing hot repair work, and now make sure they have read the fettling area first before attempting things. We all enjoy shots of working stoves, especially fully repaired examples.

Now you mention oxyacetylene I think that's what divided brazing from silver soldering, which could be achieved by students using basic propane torches to reach fluid temperatures of the filler. I very much doubt schools have acetylene bottles on the premises anymore.
