Hi! I begin to restore a monitor picnic. The seals have been redone, the small wire inside the tube has been cleaned, a new leather on the pump. Everything is tight. When I light it on, it works normally for 3 seconds and then a jet of non-gasified kerosene flows from the lipstick, resulting in a bouquet of flames. When I exchange the lipstick with that of an other 96, everything goes normally. Any idea ? The jet hole looks a bit enlarged . Could this produce such a symptom ?
Hi Nikos. Too much pressure due to pumping too soon; or too little back-pressure due to an enlarged aperture can cause this symptom. You lose the paraffin vapour "bubble" at the top of the lipstick and liquid paraffin exits the burner. JET SIZES for popular classic brass stoves. The majority of 1,1.75 and 2-pint classic brass stoves, such as the Primus Nos.210,1,5 and Optimus 00,1,45,48,5 etc.(and their equivalents) use a jet with an aperture of 0.32mm diameter (about 13 thou). Optimus and Primus No.96 and No.100 stoves, with lipstick burners, use a jet aperture of 0.23 mm (about 9 thou). Of course the cross-sectional area of the aperture increases with the square of the radius. Most small petrol stoves, without built-in cleaning needles ( No.71, 80 and 123) use the smaller, 0.23mm aperture. Now, why didn't someone write that down somewhere? Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi nikos take Kerophiles advice and you will have your stove running perfectly you say the wire in the tube has been cleaned am i right in saying the brass gauze mesh And does the burner basket sit snugly on the lipstic burner as both parts need to conduct heat to the burner to keep the fuel vapourised when i use a lipstick burner i all ways just give the pump a couple of slow pumps just to start the stove and pump them upto pressure slowly
