One of my best friends died a while ago and I got the fun task of helping to clean out his shop. Among the finds was a Svea 1 and an unknown gassie. I seem to remember giving him the Svea, but he has had the gassie for a long time. Can you help me identify it? It has a built in lighter and it appears to have a can-piercing connection that clamps to the can shoulder. I haven't seen cans like that in a while.
Not the way I wanted to get stoves, but I will remember him each time I see them on the shelf or fire them up. Thanks.

Hi Ewildes, sorry about your friends demise. As for the gassie, I do not think its a Camping Gaz but rather a copycat type as seen HERE . I see it on Ebay and no-one seems to be interested in it since its been relisted 3x. It looks like it will fit the camping gaz canister (not the pierceable one) as the bottom will snap and firmly grip the collar from the inside just like the modern CG stoves. BTW, nice SVEA.

    Best

My sincere condolences, Ewildes, about your friend and all credit to you for putting on record your sadness at acquiring the stoves in this way. Same thing happened to me with a friend's camera. You're right, it's something to trigger memories of your friend.

Ron's on the button with the gassie's identity. It's a Jet Gaz.

Though not that particular model, here's a link to my example in the Stove Reference Gallery of a Jet Gaz stove

    Jet Gaz

You'll see the sort of canister you'd be looking for to make it work. Pretty much unobtainable these days.

    All the best,

    John

:( :( Ach lad, hav'n to clean out a mates shop because he has passed on to his reward is never a fun task. Truely my thoughts and prayers go out to you and his family. You are truely blessed his family thought enough of him and you to ask you to help in this matter.

I know nothing of the stove but what i read here however it seems to be a loved bit of kit and you will, if you can find appropriate cartridges, have fond memories of it's former owner every time you fire it up. Don't let it become a shelf-hanger if you do indeed find the proper cartridges, for much pleasure will be yours in it's use.

    Thanks guys.
This is the second time I've had to clean out a friends shop, and it SUCKS. At least I have some wonderful memories of beer drinking and various projects we did.
Thanks for the info on the gaz container. I'll keep my eyes open for one.
