How do the Optimus/Primus 00 stoves compare in size to am SVEA 121? Height/diameter dimensions, fuel capacity? Thanks! Tom
The only difference I can see between mine are that one is roll stamped SVEA 121 and the other is roll stamped Optimus 00. Also the tins are lithographed different colors and have different logos. Gerry
Hi; Gerry said it all, in his own way. But let me add "you can love the both of them". I wish I could get my hands on one of those Swedish army 00's, that are housed in a green 111 box.
Both stoves have the same tank capacity - 1 imperial pint (0.57 litre). I do not have a Svea 121, so I can't compare the exact height, etc., but they must be very similar. I am sure someone else will provide the information.
Hi Trevor; As you asked sir. Optimus 00 Tank Dia., 12.5 cm Top of burner H, 16.5 cm Top of pot support H, 18.5 cm Svea 121 Tank Dia., 13.0 cm Top of burner H, 17.0 cm Top of pot support H, 18.5 cm Yours, Dariush
Dariush, you are a scholar and a gent. Thank you so much. I knew someone would provide the details. Actually your measurements make interesting reading. The area I was thinking about is the distance between the top of the burner to the top of the pot supports. Not a huge difference, but half a centimetre is a difference. I wonder if there is a perceived difference in flame with a pot on top? Interesting.
The tank "shoulders" on the Svea 121 are a bit squared-off compared to the "rounder" shoulders of the 00 tank. That's the main difference I have noted. I use both an 00 and a 121 regularly backpacking in summer. Their performance is the same.
Hi Trevor; Thanks very much for your kind words. I hope all is well with you my friend. Regarding your point about performance, I think you must be right. As you said 1/2cm is not much. But if you consider overall distance, then it's near 30%. And let me add, burners are identical on both stoves. A lot of us have had a yellow tipped flame turn into a perfect blue as soon as a pot is put on the stove. So the amount of heat reflected back onto the burner must be a part of the equation. I can not do a boil test, since my 121 is not fired (my one and only new stove). And my 00 has seen years of service, but she is in great shape. I 2nd Ed's notes regarding tanks on 121 and 00. One more item to note is on the 00 reserve cap is stored on pump rod. On the 121 it is stored on a male screw soldered to the tank top. It's a clever idea and can be seen in your posted picture. Located right hand side of the tank, next to a pot support leg. Last but not least I think engravings on 121 are much nicer. Yours Dariush
