    Hi there,

I'm the proud new owner of an Optimus 111t (I think) from the nice eBay seller. I'll post some photos later. I'm just trying to get the hang of running it.

It burns nicely. I'm trying paraffin and priming with meths at present.

After having it switched off for 3-5 minutes (perhaps to refill, or prepare the next pan for cooking), what's the correct technique for relighting? I had thought it would surely still be hot enough, but on relighting I get a big yellow flame about a foot high coming from out around the windshield. Do I need to go through the priming cycle again? Are there any tips?

I'm priming with meths at the moment. What's the best way to get the meths into the priming tray? I'm using a 5ml syringe at present, but its a bit of a palaver. Is it possible to prime with paraffin so I only need to carry one type of fuel with me?

    Thanks!

Hi crispy once you have turned of any liquid fuelled stove you will need to prime it again the vapouriser needs to bee hot enough to vapourise the fuel. even though the burner is still very hot to touch it dont take long for it to cool down enough to vapourise the fuel. What has happend is hot liquid fuel as issued from the nipple and not vapour(gas) hope this is of help

I don't try to put the meths directly into the priming tray. I dribble it onto the burner. It drips down into the priming tray, also soaking the stem along the way, which may or may not matter but does not hurt. Some of the meths always gets onto the bottom of the case, but that's okay too -- it gives the tank a bit of a preheat also. Gives me a nice whoosh when I light it. Oh yeah, it's easy to light because you apply the flame to the top of the burner and the meths catch fire all the way down. As I say, a nice whoosh. Nothing comparable to a MSR fireball, but quite enjoyable.

Hi Crispy, You have been givn sound advice on re-priming of a stove operating on kerosene.

HOWEVER, might I suggest that you never try fast re-fuelling of a stove like yours whilst fuelled with Petrol or Coleman Fuel,as the burner caps are still plenty hot enough to ignite petrol fumes.

Don't live up to your pen-name.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Not really recommended, can be a dirty, messy business. If your fuel is paraffin, you're better off priming with meths.
If however you chose to run the stove on Coleman fuel/Aspen4T/panel wipe/unleaded then you can just carry the one fuel, as any of those fuels are good for priming too.
Do however pay attention to the warning posted by Kerophile regarding re-lighting the stove when burning petrol.
