Maybe that explains why many of the 111Ts on ebay are auctioned from Norway lately? Its hard to understand why Norway is going to abandon the 111. I saw no problem paying close to $200 for my first like new 111T from a Norwegian not too long ago. Usually just the seals harden after sitting in the military warehouse for a few decades. Good luck finding genuine Optimus parts for sale any where else. Much of the "optimus/primus replacement stove parts coming from England online seem to be made in India or Asia in my experience(ebay). So paying around $200 at auction for a great condition 111T that comes from Norway with original parts to me beats buying a new MSR stove for $150 and having to replace the plastic cracked pump soon after at $40 each, plus the repair kit is another $35. On top of that the XGK or even my Dragonfly are deafening. There is no stove new worth buying these days except maybe another Trangia. What else are you going to spend your stove funds on? Don't get caught up on all the forum bragging about who scored a 111 for $5 at a garage sale. Shame on them for not telling the seller it was worth much more. So get online and bid up those relics!
I found a Optimus 111t last year for EUR 50 at leboncoin.fr, a local French sort of ebay. In a generally very good state without any rust at all. Alas it has burner- issues, but slowly I am addressing them. Sometimes one can find something interesting at that site, but French reading and writing is necessary. Greetings, Tonio
I do not understand why the silent burner( 111 T) fetches more money at auctions than roarers. The standard Norwegian military stove was first a roarer. And the best. The silent one needs more care with re to preheat, simmering,inner/outer caps etc. Why ask for more trouble? Get a roarer. The talk about using meths, white gas is just giving me a headache. I have used white gas in standard 111 roarers( none B type) it works well. But 111T has just same missing barriers with compared to Coleman stoves. Not to be recommended. Bjørn
In my experience, even my "silent burner" 111T has to be dialed way down to barely simmer flame level if I really need to hear anything at all outside my campsite. By then the Grizzly already has my skull clamped in her jaws......... And you can forget hearing those Aliens creep up on you, too!
