I had one of those and it took abit of knowhow and a knack to get it going. It had it's own instructions and from memory this is how it was to be started. 1.Fill with fuel only to the base of the filler tube which goes someway into the tank itself(to prevent overfilling).Replace the fuel cap and tighten enough to seal it 2.Make sure the the quickstart lever(brass flap lever) is pushed toward the burner about 1/4 of a turn anti-clockwise from it's fully outward position. This lever is really only needed if the stove is started cold. 3.Turn the flame regulator fully anti-clockwise to auto-prick the fuel nipple then fully clock-wise again to close off the fuel valve to seal it. 4.With your fuel tank correctly filled and sealed;and your quickstart lever turned toward the burner as discribed(not against the burner or you may get burnt when you have to move it);and with the flame/fuel regulator in the closed position,your stove is sealed and ready to pump up the pressure.10-12 full pumps only. 5.As you hold a flame directly over the brass burner cap right next to the small holes, open the fuel regulator about 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn and you should hear an audible spitting hiss and your burner should ignite(remember to keep your face clear). At this stage you have to be quick and pump the pump quickly about a further 25-30 times or untill you feel an obvious firmness in the pumping. The 324 has a small tank which also means the pressure withen gets lost quickly in use with the quickstart open. 6.As you pump,the flames initially will burn yellow and high then settle down to blue-green as the burner vapouriser warms up in about 1/2 - 3/4 of a minute. After it has been warmed up, turn outwards(clockwise) the quickstart lever untill it stops firmly. The burner flames should settle fully into a nice blue colour. Adjust your flame hieght to burn at its best then re-check your tank pressure. Regulate the flame to suit what you want and pump up the pressure if you need to durring use. Once you have mastered it,you will find the Optimus 324 to be a very good and reliable efficient stove. Abit harder to start compared to the Colemans though. Hope this helps you.
