Hello all. Picked up my first Optimus 99 a few months back. Overall in great shape. Fired it up today for the first time. Gonna need a new cap gasket for sure. The valve key rotates about 170-175 degrees from full close until full open. The pricker rod is protruded when turned fully counterclockwise. It seems to me that there should be more than a half of a turn total of adjustability in the valve stem. Question: Is this the total range of adjustment for this model stove or do I need to pull the valve stem and investigate? Thanks!
Some stoves have more adjustment than others. You have add “clicks” to the pricker thing if it bothers you or you can’t get full flame. Duane
Used this one last week and 1/2 a turn is about it. Seems high is in the middle and med is just before off CW. On mine if I went too low it got yellow flame.
Daryl, I’m getting the same. I put on a known good cap from another stove. Running much better. Doesn’t dial down as good as some of my 123 stoves before going yellow. Think I’ll clean up the valve innards and tip a bit and run it a bunch, see how it goes. Stove was sitting unused for years. Looks to have seen little use but a little varnished in the valve area. Replaced the cap gasket last night. Old one was hard as a rock. Thinking the pip for the cap is the same. Will do a “freezer” leak test next. Thanks to all for your replies!
Sometimes the wick is plugged up or burned out in older stoves. I just did an Optimus 8r and replaced the wick based on the poor burning and that they used automotive fuel. Runs fast and hot, and does go fairly low without the yellow flames.
