Yes, Craigslist, Los Angeles area. owner will not accept texts... phone # - 661-313-7818. I am just so new at this that the worries about problematic stoves is a bit much for me right now. Baby steps...baby steps. May live to regret passing on it.

    Hi Ken,

I gave the gent a call and he is willing to ship so it will be on it's way to me shortly. Unless he changes his mind.

Thank you @NW Lady for the heads up on the stove.

    Cheers,
    Norman

The Optimus No. 10 has a brass tank (not copper).

    Good Evening, All,

    Actually Tony, @Tony Press,

I always "thought" that mine had brass fuel tanks, but this post made me go and check one, and on that one, the tank is made of STEEL!! Surprised me, no end! I'll have to dig out the #10 that I've actually used, because the one I checked just now is still NIB, and thusly, unfired. But, it's steel, for sure, inside, and out..... the fuel tank, that is! I can't recall what I did to the one I've used, but will try to find it, soon, and will report back here with my findings on the tank material. I would guess (and this is PURELY a guess!), that you could probably swap out the black steel tank with a brass one. Guess I'll have to check, and find out........ I hope this helps. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
Ol' Doc (who's just as surprised as you, that his #10 tank is steel!! Guess I'll just toss this junk into the trash........!!!!:^o :^o :^o    Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    @Doc Mark

Very interesting! I just went off the one in the Reference Gallery. I’m glad to be corrected.

    Cheers

    Tony

@igh371 Can you confirm whether your Optimus No. 10 tank is brass or steel?

    Hi, Tony, @Tony Press ,

I just checked the only two #10 Rangers in the Stove Reference Gallery, and, like mine, they are both steel fuel tanks. I shocked! But, with no heat shield, steel is probably a better thing than brass! And, with that, I’m calling it a night, and hitting the sack! I’ll try to find my other #10 tomorrow, and check it’s fuel tank. But, I’m already betting it will be steel, too. Talk later & God Bless!

    Tired Ol’ Doc

Mine has a steel tank to. I can't remember if I have put it up in the Reference Gallery. I think if you find one with a brass tank, it has been modified.

I am not surprised, because 111C did also have steel tank.

    Good Morning, All,

I know that quite a few CCS members now own and use the wonderful little Ranger #10. Back when I got my second one, there were only four of us, of whom I knew. But, that's all changed, now, for sure, and I think CCS, and our many discussions on this little Powerhouse of a stove, had a lot to do with that!!

@dsk , @aktopp , Dag Ståle and Arne Kåre, were two fine Gentlemen who encouraged and helped me, back when I was seeking my first Ranger #10. Guys, if you two get time, could you please see if your own Ranger #10's have steel fuel tanks, or ones made of brass? I'm betting that ALL of the Optimus Ranger #10 stoves left the factory with steel fuel tanks, and that any that have brass tanks, have had the original tank replaced. Given the lack of a heat shield on these little volcano stoves, it seems reasonable that steel would work better than brass, in this case. What are your opinions on this, dear friends of mine?? Thanks for helping fill in more of the informational puzzle, and Merry Christmas to you both!! God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

@Doc Mark mine has a steel tank, I doubt a brass tank would be safe on these little powerhouses.

    Hi, @Afterburner ,

I recall those discussions, and in fact, changed out the steel tank on my 111C, because of the possible problems. However, the 111C has a heat shield, and the Ranger #10 does not. Not sure the brass would work as well as the steel seems to. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks, and God Bless!

    Doc

PS - Howdy, @theyellowdog , great to hear from you! Thanks for chiming in on this, and I think you are right, in that the steel tank in the #10 works better than brass would.

Heat conduction works better in brass so brass tank might get hotter faster than steel tank. Ranger has SRV so there should not be problems with over pressure. If tank would be made of brass and if there would be SRV there should not be any safety problems.

Maybe Ranger has steel tank just for that reason that is was cheaper to make on time when Ranger was made. Brass tank maybe would have been as good as steel tank but brass was old fashion material when Ranger was manufactured.

    @Doc Mark & @igh371

I see that I have made a fundamental error. ](*,)

Everyone here except me is talking about the Optimus Ranger #10. I was completely off track thinking about the rare Optimus No. 10 that looks like an ordinary No. 5. ](*,)

    Cheers

    Tony

    Well, DANG, @Tony Press ,

Don't you ever do that again!! (and..... don't bring up all the times I've made strong definitive statements, only to be proved wrong with a bit more research!!!)

It's hard to keep up with all the numbers, isn't it?!? It still confuses me, sometimes. One of my favorites, is the Optimus #9 and the MSR #9: both rare, hard to find, and sometimes confused stoves!!! So, no worries, Mate! All is good, and hey, it's been an excellent educational moment for Ol' Doc, who always thought his Optimus Ranger #10's had brass fuel tanks! Take care, and God Bless!

    The Sometimes Confused,
    Ol' Doc
