    @Afterburner ,

    An excellent point, which I totally missed. Since @snwcmpr , Ken, has mentioned the Ranger #10, in response to one having been made available, a while back, I assumed that this is the stove about which we were talking. Add in the OP which dealt with the Optimus Arctic 111C (111D), and Ken's post followed nicely into the wandering that brought us to the Ranger #10. But, you are right, in that the Gentleman who asked about "copper/steel" tank, did NOT say which one he meant, regarding the stove, itself. Nicely done! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    Hey, Ken,

    Yep, that's basically what I was alluding to, when I said, "...in response to one having been made available, a while back...". Did you get that one, my friend? I surely do hope so! Take care, and God Bless!

    Nope I didn't get the 111C. The seller reneged on the deal and ended up selling it to someone local.

    @Doc Mark

    Hi Mark,

    I did manage to get one on off of the bay a evil. The gent selling the 111C was great to work with.

    When it arrived it didn't run right it had a lot of yellow once warmed up. What I ended up doing was switching out the inner and outer caps and for some reason which I don't truly understand it solved the problem.

    The 111C take a bit to warm up so I decided to use some Kevlar wick material in the preheater cup and and this solved the preheating but when it is cold I still preheat twice.

    I do wish I could find jets/nipples that are just for Coleman fuel and one for kerosene/paraffin. Maybe someone has already done with and I missed it.
    I did try a 50/50 mix of Coleman fuel and kerosene/paraffin and it seems to work pretty good.

    Cheers,

    Norman

    I'd give a lot to know exactly why the Norwegian Forsvarets gave up on these. Crappy, cracked burners from Portugal would certainly be a reason! But was there some performance problem(s) also? I ask because I depend on my Optimus 111T on a daily basis in the Winter, and I'm always absorbing new info on cold-weather stove operation, especially regarding Optimus Hiker-type stoves.

    Superbly done post!

    The burners have never been given up by the Norwegian Army. They are still in use. Downsizing is the reason so they selled of most old equiptment to modernize the new smaller army. The burner itself is a good burner, but you could be unlucky to find one that is badly silverbrazed. As a collector of pimus I have learned to silverbraze 111D and they works like a charm.

    Trebor, did you post your work here on CCS? It would be great to learn that skill, and just exactly where these burner can crack, as well as how to silbraze them, if you don't mind sharing!! Thanks, and God Bless!

    I would just love to get hold of a 111 Arctic. But like most of us it may never be. Heavy Sigh.

    Off topic for sure but one can and I have silver brazed coleman generators that have been heated and quenched in an overly exuberant fashion with good success. Clean and flux, (not too much in the right location), with patient sweeping movements brought up to temp works wonders.
