    This is Fantastic..
This forum is a real well of information,
and suddenly You stumble upon something,
and something You have been wondering about
is suddenly so clear and so simple!!! :D/
These guys that constructed the stoves were brilliant,
and You (and me) who discusses them
suddenly stumbles upon a grain of pure gold.. :p

Well to "cut to the chase", or the "cheese",
recently i bought a unused Optimus 00, with box, tools and the whole 49 yards..
(Old MOD stock, all packed in plastic bags).

    But one thing I couldn´t figure out.. :-k :-k

Where to put the reservoir lid, when the burner was attached..
My other stove (radius21) has a little threaded ring soldered on top..
I thought it somewhat idiotic to put it in the box,
where it´s just a matter of days until You lose it in the woods.. :frown:

And here I found the answer!!! :p :)
Just screw it onto the pump!!!!! :D/

I thought that the pumphandle was a tad to small for a grown mans hands,
but now its more in size..

    Simply had to:
    1. Put the lid on the pump (ten minutes ago)
    2. Thank You all again for a fine site and a fantastic forum where You get the answers,
almost before You asked the question!!

    My humble thanks and
    Best regards as always

    Uffe

Hi Uffe - glad you enjoy the forum!

Getting chilly on that balcony yet - maybe you need a nice old bowl-fire for the winter!

    Hi Spiritburner. :)
Oh no, on the balcony, it´s still summer..
(well almost anyway), should it turn colder,
I have my nine stoves to keep me warm.
And when the winterdarkness descend upon us,
I have two Optimuslamps to guide me in the darkness..
And they provide a good deal of heat to,
so I´m snug there as long as
I have an ample supply of kerosene, petrol and suitable spirits. :D :p
One of these days I will fire them all up and take a nice
photo of the whole gang for you all to see..

Just had a cup on the balcony, cooked it on my
"first in the litter" a Radius 21 from the 20-40:s,
working like a charm though a bit on the "tatty side",
but he´s a worker, doesn´t like to swim, just roaring on.. 8)

I will make provisions for the winter to come,
by setting up some sort of sturdy sidings on the balcony,
to keep the snow and sleet out, so me and my stoves
can have a nice protected environment and keep King Bore at bay. ;)

    Regards

    Uffe

    Hi

I noticed that the explanation for the different legs does not appear on this topic unless I have missed it.

It appears in this link Leg identification

Basically Optimus fitted their own legs to the stoves until 1914 when they bought the Lux company. They then used "Lux" legs on the stoves but I have no idea how long that they were in use for. I think that some time during the period of the patent 00s they reverted to using Optimus legs on the stoves.

    Sorry for the oversight

    Regards Bryan

Okay, :o lots and lots of information on the Optimus 00 stove and all its variants .. I am slowly going through my fettling jobs and i have reached my 00 stoves. Have i read the thread correctly that ALL variants of the Optimus 00 have spirit cups sporting the dimple (sump) ?

I have two 00s from the 60's 70's with plain spirit cups.

    Hi Andrew

No you have misunderstood the situation.

The dimple spirit cups originated on Lux stoves. Optimus bought the Lux stove making business and fitted the dimpled spirit cups to their stoves for a period after that. I have no idea how long they were fitted but stoves made up to 1914 had plain spirit cups and these returned after the dimpled cups were dropped. I presume that the dimpled cups were made in what had been the Lux factory and were then passed on to the Optimus assembly factory. During this period many Optimus stoves were fitted with Lux legs which had a different bend to the Optimus legs

Dimpled spirit cups are much rarer than the plain cups

    Hello Bryan

Thanks for the reply, I will leave them as i found them then :content:
But having you say the dimpled cups are rarer makes my recent purchase of an older 00 a bit more special (for me).
