Thanks Bum, if the fishing is good, maybe I'll buy one for a day. Looks like being over 55 does not kick in for a fishing license until 70. Duane
Hi everyone I note by the calendar that it’s right about one month before the OSG kicks off at Diamond Lake. I promised I’d remind folks about one month out. When: Tuesday, August 30th through Monday, September 5th, packing up to leave and departing on Tuesday morning, September 6th. You don’t need to plan to be there for all the time. Drop in for whatever time you can muster. Where: Broken Arrow Campground on Diamond Lake, Oregon. Group Site K1 - K5 (five camps). The first couple of posts at the very beginning of this thread cover most of the details anyone might want to know, but I wanted to add and recap some other information. Fishing has reportedly been stellar on the Lake this summer with lots of holdover trout from last years stocking that have grown into monsters. (I haven’t fished or held a fishing license in 20 years, but I went and bought one yesterday.) Oregon experienced an unusually wet spring and early summer, so this part of the state is very green and wildflowers have continued to bloom out long past the regular season. It’s made for some exceptional hiking scenery. The wetter year has meant that wildfires have not made an appearance in this part of the Oregon and, hopefully, that situation will continue to be the case a month from now. Campfires are not currently restricted and should still be possible come OSG-time. State and feds are asking that you get wood from local sources to avoid the transport of bark beetles and other pests that are causing real problems with timber in the NW. I think I’ve compiled a headcount of definite attendees and I will be sending along a PT to you folks today (Friday, 7/29). If I don’t contact you via PT today and you plan on coming, then I goofed up and you have my sincere apologies. Please just drop me a PT and I’ll get you on the list. No slight intended, I’m just extra organizationally challenged at the moment. But, you don’t have to be on any list to attend and if things work out last minute so that you and yours can come hang out with us at the Lake, just come on by. We’ll make room, no trouble at all. I’m planning on bringing along way too many stoves. I think I’ll be hauling in some biggies (no shortage of hot water) as well as some of the more unusual and not commonly seen models so that folks can get a chance to play around with these. There probably will be some lanterns in attendance, too, even though mine are nothing too special. I still have a pile of pricker-making supplies that will be there for those who would like to make some. And, I’ll bring along some tools for working on NRVs/SRVs and doing other stovie chores. Silbrazing and soldering/desoldering are available as long as we don’t get too complicated. I’ll have some of “those caps” along for folks to try on their stoves. Plus, a lot of stuff I can’t think of now and will probably throw in the vehicle five minutes before we drive away (like the Goop hand cleaner for instance!). I might even have a few small party favors to hand out to attendees. Please remember, too, that if you are of the RV/motorhome/lodge/cabin preference, that all this available either in camp or very nearby, so there’s no reason on that score not to attend this event. I’m sure I’ve forgotten something, so, please dive in and remind me/us. Cheers, Gary
wow! wish i could be there, but it's hurricane season, and i still have work to do around the casa (trees to trim, maintenance, etc.) have fun, everybody, and remember: take lots of pics!
Guys that sounds like fun, Just wish that it was a little closer. Would love to dive into some of that stuff you are talkin about bringin. Sounds like alot of fun, and parts will be there.May even get to beat you out of one of those Enders. Maybe next time it will be closer,Tn for instance. Have Fun Guys, Be Safe Duane
Gary, if you have a NRV tool that will extract from a '30's Coleman Cabin Stove (it would have to be about 14" long to reach!), please bring it!. Am planning on arriving Tuesday & will stop by to see if I can help with anything. don
Don! You are coming! Great! Glad to hear it. See you there. On the tool... we're talking standard Coleman head, right? I'll check today and if I don't have one long enough to hand, I'll put one together and bring it along. It's no trouble at all. Cheers, Gary
Hi Duane It would be with me. The resort is not connected with our camp which is Forest Service. I've prepaid the whole shebang. But, the settling can happen post trip. too. I'm not fussy and not really sure what the settling comes to at the moment. I reckon it'll be reasonable and that I'll probably figure it all out with my feet up in my new reclining camp chair while at the OSG. Cheers, Gary
It's getting close, and we're heading North soon... Is anybody that's going interested in some PowerMax cartridges? I've got a case of them, and am willing to sell and or trade... Let me know and I'll throw them in the truck!
No PowerMax for me thanks, Steve. Thanks for asking. So, just about a week out. Weather says a slight chance of t-storms this Wednesday and Thursday, but then returning to the glorious weather pattern with highs in the upper seventies and lows in the low forties. Lots of sun. Except at night. Word is that the bugs are greatly reduced from the typical July levels as things have dried out, but bring bug dope just in case if you are sensitive to the buggers. Campfires in rings, charcoal fires and campstoves are all good. Please try to get your wood "locally" to avoid spreading bark beetle. All the confirmations are confirmed. I think it's looking really good. Can't think of much else to say. Look forward to seeing ya'll. Should be a great time! Now, in just a bit, someone will helpfully point out what I forgot to say and then we can tackle my omission. Cheers, Gary
Gary, do you know if participants discuss what they need or want to trade in the way of parts or stoves and if anyone is interested, whether then to bring said item or not on the PMs? I know you were going to bring a few supplies for inexpensive but needful tools. I plan on bringing the gas sipper so will not participate on wood gathering. Duane
Gosh, Duane. I don't know. I've only been to one stove gathering. It's ok with me if you'd like to trade stuff and all. Anyway you want to try that is ok, I think. Leastwise, nobody told me any rules about it or anything. Are you looking for something special? I reckoned I'd bring stuff to do brazing with, and some soldering, too. Plus the pricker-making supplies. I tend to feel uncomfortable without a lot of tools about, so I'll bring a bunch. OH! and I did fab up a tool for Don's Coleman check valve in his Coleman Cabin stove which will be coming along. I'm also bringing the Goop hand cleaner and a couple of fire extinguishers. Still working on what stoves and I have a couple of lanterns picked out. Hope this helps? Cheers, Gary
Thanks Gary. I'll bring my Coleman 9C or tank to have the experts tell me if the check valve/ball needs attention and the tank off the PW #3 for evaluation. I have a plastic bin with parts from everyone who sells parts to us Stovies and a few other assorted parts. Amazing how much I have accumulated the last year and a half. It used to fit in a plastic bin that a dismantled 96 would go in. Duane
Evening, Guys, With work still being a bear, I won't be around here too much for a while. But, for all those that are heading to the OSG, please have a very safe trip, and Sweet Bride and I look forward to seeing you there!! We hope to arrive on Tuesday, around mid-day, or so. When is everyone else planning to arrive? See you all soon!!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc and SB
Hi Doc We're planning to arrive between 1 and 2pm on Tuesday. Check out time is noon. Check in time is 1pm. See ya there. Cheers, Gary
I'm shooting for late morning on Thursday after a side trip on Wednesday if I hear back from a guy I am to do a short hike with on Wednesday. If not, I may camp some place before OSG and still arrive Thursday. I plan on leaving early Sunday. Keep the kero room temperature for me please. Duane
