    Hey, Dawg, Duane, and All!

It won't be long, now, and we'll all be howling and barking our pack delight at the joys of friendship, fun, food, and a fine time at the OSG!! YAHOO and HUZZAH!!!! :D/ :D/  8) :D/ :D/

As we've all discussed here, and in other threads on CCS, I will be bringing my family of MSR early X-GK Tribe of stoves, plus a few loaner stoves from some good Friends (Thanks, Duane and Sam!!) and do a short show and tell on the history of this wonderful stove. I'll probably do that on Thursday, or Friday. I will also offer to show folks how to make good char cloth, and then use it for making flint and steel fires, if there is still interest in that. For those who are interested, please bring a small tin with tight lid, as I will be sharing a bit of char with those who want it. I'll show a variety of steel strikers and sparkers, including two that our very own Sparky made, and a few different types of flint!! Fun!

Sweet Bride and I will once again be setting up our large canvas fly, under-which we like to cook and hang out. If we get any rain, others can join us underneath, as we can accommodate quite a few folks, when the fly is fully opened!!

I'll bring a fun selection of "interesting" stoves, for show and tell, and also a handful to use as door prizes at the event. Maybe we should wait on that until around Saturday, just to make sure that everyone who's planning to attend, will have arrived. But, I'm open to doing a drawing whenever BernieDawg thinks it's a good time!! 8) :D

I guess our usual pot-luck dinner will be on Saturday afternoon, or evening, is that right, Gary? Sweet Bride will, once again, be creating some outstanding comestibles to share, and we're really looking forward to sharing the great foods cooked up by our fellow Stovies, too!! 8) :D Oh, if anyone has food allergies, we'd appreciate knowing that in advance, please. I think we might have a few vegetarians amongst our numbers, but can't recall for sure. Please post that info, if you are in that group, OK? Thanks!

I'll also have a first aid kit, as well as a good fire extinguisher, "just in case".
We’ll also bring quite a bit of kerosene, a few gallons of Coleman fuel, and a few gallons of Meths. That should last us about one night…….!! YIKES!!

Safe driving to one and all, and we’ll see you next week!! For those that would love to join us, but cannot, we will keep you there in spirit, and will hoist a pint to one and all of our CCS Mates!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

P.S. Just as we have always done for our four CASG events, let's all be sure to be outstanding neighbors to our fellow campers, most of whom will probably be using El-Cheapo "profane" stoves, some of which will die during their camping trip. In the past, we've always had a few loaner stoves, with which we have saved the day more than several times, and I think that's a great idea. Good Will goes a long way towards good feelings, and most CCS members understand that and practice it generously! Along those lines, we always end up fettling some poor campers stove during our event, and so far, every single person has been stunned that we could fix his "nasty old stove", and especially in such a short time!! 8) ;) :D   Last, let's all be VERY careful about littering in this wonderful campground! "Leave nothing but footprints, and take nothing but photographs", as the old adage goes!! ;) 8)   :D I know that, with our CCS Mates, this is rather like preaching to the choir here, but just making sure we're all on the same page. By the way, this event has been conceived, planned, and staged by our own BernieDawg, so he is the "Booshway", or Big Dawg of the very first OSG!! Not trying to weasel-in, by offering these comments, but rather just making sure to share my thoughts and opinions on this important stuff, for what it's worth.... Back to work for me!

P.P.S. Gary, is there a firm head-count going for this event? If so, please post that info. If not, then hey, we'll see how things turn out when we get there!! ;) 8) 8) :D :D Either way, we're going to have a fantastic time!!!!

OK. Sure. Let's do a potluck on Saturday night. My lovely spouse is a veggie but eats fish, and dairy. But, people, don't sweat the veggie thang as she always has her back-up veggie stuff stashed along to fill the corners.
How about you do the drawing at the potluck if that's ok, Doc. I might see if I can't add something(s) in to that, too. Swag is good.

Ditto here. Just got back from the store.

No worries, Doc. It's all good stuff, I reckon.

Ummmm, I'm getting out my fingers and toes...
I count 12-15 warm bodies as of this moment. There's still a bit of room for last minute decidees... :) You would certainly be welcome! 8)

    Cheers,
Gary (the "Booshway") :-s :-k  (thank goodness for Google)

Hey Doc, I'm at work along your way up if going 395 like you said, I work M-F, 6-3 in Carson City if your travels permit a stop here, let me know. I have a couple breaks a day and an early lunch at 9:30AM. I go home on Friday after work. I head up to Oregone after work next Tuesday, leaving 395 in Susanville and going for the night at the lava beds close to the Oregonian border.

    Hey, Hikerduane,

Sounds great! We'll be heading up the 395, and are really looking forward to that lovely drive! Will stop in Bishop, for some outstanding jerky from our most favorite place for such things! Then, we'll pass through Carson City, but shouldn't get there until late afternoon, me thinks. Probably spend the night in Susanville, or someplace around there, then get to camp on Tuesday morning/early afternoon.

Thanks for the invitation to stop and visit in Carson City, but I'm thinking that it may not work for your work hours, and also that we will be wanting to roost up for the night before it gets too late. So, we'll probably just pass on through, and see you at the OSG. Back in the day, our band played in Reno fairly regularly, and once in Carson City, and the Ormsby House, which is probably not even there anymore. "Interesting" job, to say the least, but CC seemed like a great little place to live. We worked up at Lake Tahoe a good bit, too, and I loved it!

Well, got to run, but I'll be seeing you soon, and both SB and I are looking forward to meeting you, and everyone else who's going to be there, and having some fun at OSG!! Have a safe trip, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

That's fine. I've worked in Carson City back in the mid '70's and now too, but maintain my place in Plumas County where I go on the weekend. They have been renovating the Ormsby House, may never open again some think. I worked up at Lake Tahoe a few times for the company that transferred me to Carson City originally and where I live now also. Had to move often in the 12 years I worked for that company, all over northern Nevada too.

I always wanted to stop in Bishop for jerky, but always needed to get somewhere before dark too when thru there.

    Greetings, All,

Well, tonight, we learned something fun, that's been sort of circling under the radar for a bit! BernieDog gave me a shout a while back, informing me that a certain Gentleman from MSR had contacted him, and asked about the possibility of him attending the OSG! After talking to Gary, and with his permission, I emailed Drew Keegan, who is the Division Director -Stoves and Cookware for MSR, and Drew very kindly responded. An email exchange began in which we talked about the OSG, MSR stoves, and other things, and I asked Drew is it were possible for us to get a sample of the new MSR stoves, to test at the Stove Gathering. Because he wasn't sure of possible schedule conflicts, Drew thoughtfully asked that we not make such a visit public, just yet, just in case something fell through at the last minute. But, tonight, he sent Gary and me and email in which he firmed up his plans to join us at the Oregon Stove Gathering!! He is going to being all four new MSR stoves, as well as some other stoves, and a smattering of other goodies, for those who will certainly be interested in seeing such fun goodies!! He also very generously offered to share some of his stories from his time working at MSR, and explain some of the decisions that have guided the philosophy of stove design and marketing, which is a topic we've discussed quite often here at CCS! I hinted, a while back, that something interesting might have been told me, regarding the use of plastic for pumps at MSR. Well, at the Gathering, I do believe that Drew can share that information with you, if you would like to learn why MSR has made a conscious decision NOT to use metal pumps with their stoves. You will be surprised by the answer, my Friends, and all will become clear after you hear it!! 8) ;) :D :D Drew, and Product Manager, Steve Grind, will be arriving on Wednesday evening, and will stay with us until early Friday morning, when they have attend to other scheduled activities. It is VERY nice of Drew and Steve to come and visit the OSG, and to bring the new stoves MSR is going to offer, so we can see them all in person. It's also very cool that he's willing to share some MSR stories, and I look forward to hearing what he might share with us. AS Drew contacted Gary about the event, I know that they will be checking out the outstanding silent caps that BernieDawg has developed and offered to Stovies the world over!! (I'm bringing my entire BD cap family, just for grins!) ;)  8) :D/ :D :D I will also be bringing my family of MSR Model 9 through X-GK stoves, and sharing my thoughts with all in attendance, as well as Drew and Steve, on how all this came to pass. I hope they will find it interesting, and that Drew can offer some thoughts, comments, of suggestions to further my research into what is probably my most trusted stove family!!

Thought you all would like to hear this news, and hopefully, it will entice a few of those who have been mulling over attending the OSG to make the commitment and join us at Diamond Lake for the the Oregon Stove Gathering!! This Gathering will certainly turn out to be a great one, which with the addition of our new guests, will also add some icing to an already sweet and wonderful cake of fun!!! See you all there, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    Heya All
I'm bringing my Griswold #8 waffle iron. I've been practicing and they're coming out not too shabby (though they sure aren't fast). I reckon I could practice some more at OSG. Bring your forks.
    Cheers,
    Gary

    Hey,Gary,

Ummmmmmmmm!!!!! Sounds delicious!! Do you need us to donate a bottle of maple syrup? We have one unopened bottle, which we will be happy to donate to the cause, should you need it. Just say the word, and we'll pack it up tomorrow!! My mouth is watering already!! :D/ :D/ :D/ :D/ :D :D Duane, Russ, Gary, and all, have a safe trip to Oregon, and we'll see you all soon!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Doc

P.S. Hikerduane, you had better have room in your little car for the box that contains your MSR #9, 'cause if it won't fit, I may "have" to keep it for my own!! ;) ;) :^o :^o 8) 8)  :^o :^o  8-[ [-o< Take care, and God Bless!

Oh, you know Doc, we'll probably bring along some. But, one thing I know about waffles is that everyone has their favorite toppings. And, some folks are reeeeal particular about the grade of maple in their syrup. So, don't assume we'll bring your favs and bring it yourself just in case, might be good guidance. :)

    Cheers,
    Gary

Doc, its nice of MSR product mgr to join us and perhaps in the process learn something from it or vice versa. As for me, I have only packed clothes and have yet to see which stoves to bring although I know 3 or 4 stoves are in my truck (always) plus some cook sets, utensils, and some stock food for emergency. I have already frozen 10 lbs of Gary's fave sausages. The rest I will do on Monday and since I will be working Monday night, I will be heading off as soon as I get off work but I have 8 hours straight drive so it will be in 2 or 3 hour segments hopefully arriving just before dawn.

HD - I still have to send you a list of veggies to get.

I will see you all when I get there.

Hopefully, I will complete my packing by tomorrow evening.

    Cheers.

Ron, I have corn coming on in the garden, those hot Thai peppers, carrots, fingerling potatoes, some green beans, arugula. Let me know what I need to pick out of the garden by this late afternoon and what to pick up at a store before arriving by Tuesday midday. I'm only going to bring two small ice chests due to space. The barbie is packed.:)

What to bring? Guess I'll throw in most all of the stoves I have, just in case.
Wondering what kind of 'supplies' people bring to these events? I don't have any spare parts to speak of other than possible donor stoves but what about chemicals and tools? I'll only be attending Sat-Mon,Tues due to work but I'd like to make the most out of my limited time among the knowledgeable(that's you guys).
    thanks mates,

    K. Artichokes are getting bigger too. I'll leave the corn, so bulky and pull some carrots and potatoes if I can find some, beans.

    Heya Ron
I seem to recall we brought you a wok last time, but what I can't recall is which one. Since you are cooking for two, would you like the big steel one with the ring? It's what we use at home. I reckon you/we could work out something to fire it. ;)
    Cheers,
    Gary
