Almost done stuffing my truck with stoves, food etc. I just need to get ice and the sausages off the fridge when I get home from work tomorrow morning. Have enough kerosene and hopefully coleman fuel for the whole duration. Just bringing the Tilley heater and Petromax lantern and some other stuff. Duane, do pick up some veggies if you can after your backpacking. Will try to pick up some on the way. Hope I dont forget to get a fishing license when I hit the Oregon state. Gotta settle some bills before I leave. Ron
Ron, way to go, leave town in the early morning hours ahead of the bill collectors. I need to pick up a OR map and maybe County maps of Oregon to help me comprehend where I'm going in Bend, I have Google Map instructions written down and for Diamond Lake. I'll hit the showers at Diamond Lake before meeting everyone so I don't scare them too bad. Yep, have veggies and some fruit on my mind to pick up. I get to fill my ice chests at work, they have an ice machine in the cafeteria. I have some kero and gas for the Colemans/MSR's and other vintage stoves if the gang wants to see me fire them up. Even a few items to give away, a nice tank, legs for something that takes sturdy legs. Fishing license, oh boy, hate the price. Duane
Yup the fishing license is a killer specially for non-residents HD. I hope the payout as far as fishing is good, at least get some beeeeeg fish. Yeah, am not bringing any brassies - dragonfly, wisperlite international, primus stove/lantern combo, enders 9060, small stuff stoves. Have to do grocery when I hit Oregon as its a 10 - 8 hour drive from here with the stops and all. Bringing an extra tarp but do not have poles. I hope there are trees to just tie it to. Have to bring extra soda for my condition.
I'll have a few ground covers, where I'm bping, Jim says to bring something heavy duty for the lava by his place in Bend. Duane
Wonderful , DAY 2 and no live updates without local internet at the OSG site. As a late arrival(Sat), I'm missing out on so much this week. Saturday can't get here quite soon enough. 8)
details? 'round these parts it's $17 3-day and $30 for a week non-resident... (active/retired military get salt and fresh fishing, hunting, and alligator license for $20 a year!)
http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/licenses_regs/sport_fishing.asp Just hand over your credit card!
Probably just your life savings. I quit going fishing years ago here in Oregon. Wasn't catching enough to make it enjoyable. I'm in the slow process of reroofing my house but I'm hoping to get up to the OSG on Sunday for the day. It'll be interesting to see if any non-resident licenses were purchased.
Just got home, over a 6 hour drive getting back. Great bunch as was to be expected. Food at the potluck was even better, give a ways, MSR stuff to be given away, raffled off stoves and supplies, no one lost out. Gary was awesome fixing stoves. Fixed Fuelish's tube in his 99, and of course he was stoked when Gary told him as Fuelish had guests at another cmapsite that he visited. Duane
Hi all, well I just got home from OSG and it was such a great time specially seeing Doc Mark and Gary do their magic. I did not have a lot of pictures to take but did take video of the most important events of the stove gathering. Present were of course the hosts berniedawg and his better half, Doc Mark and Sweet Bride, me of course, Bajabum and his better half, hikerduane, russ in california, and unclepugsly and his dad. We had a raffle drawing (which Doc will explain hopefully before their trip) and guess who the first name was picked so I had the first choice in the prizes. Also did a swap for a PW509B with fuelish for my Phoebus 725 stove . Our good host berniedawg and mrs dawg also prepared very tasty waffles on two occasions......I would say it really does taste good. Gary thanks also for the prickers you so laboriously prepare for us plus a bonus railroad spike. On my way home, I stopped by Redding California as it had 4 antique shops side by side and originally looking for a nice cast iron waffle maker similar to the one berniedawg used to make the waffles. I did find two but were really too much for my wallet or should I say overpriced [used]. But I did not go home without something. In pristine condition an Aladdin kerosene lamp for 1/3 the cost of the same price going on fleabay. Ohhhhhhhh my soft bed becons now. But before I end this, me and those present when the MSR representatives viewed Doc's historical presentation of the GK to XGK as well as a samping of one of their new Whisperlite Universal and to top it off a bonus viewing a stove that never got marketed in kerosene and white gas versions - HJ, you own one of those. I do hope hikerduane arrived safe as he left ealy in the morning and I left just before lunch. More later. Ron
I had a great time with great people. Thanks to all for the courtesy and friendship you showed me. Didn't make it for the 'meat' of the event but the last couple of days were fun. As has been said by far wiser than me..."AGAIN!" I'd like to say a personal thanks to Doc Mark and BerniDawg(and spouses of course) for their friendship and taking me under their proverbial wing(s) with their guidance and hospitality. For me, these two couple made the event. Fettle on bro's, 8) |imgRemoved| |imgRemoved| |imgRemoved| |imgRemoved|

Good Morning, Friends, We're on our way back home, after the event, and having breakfast in the hotel restaurant before hitting the road for the last 433 miles to our mountain home! The OSG was, flat-out, one of the most fun Stove Gatherings we've yet attended, and both Sweet Bride and I had a fabulous time, sharing friendship, fun, food, and fettling with the stellar bunch of Stovies that attended!! SB and I want to thank each and every one of the Stovies that made the effort to join us all at Diamond Lake, OR, for the very first OSG, and most especially, Bernie Dawg and Mrs Dawg, for doing all the outstanding scouting, selecting, and planning needed for this great event to be held!!! WELL DONE, dear Friends!!! SB and I also with to extend a very special "Thank You!" to Drew Keegan, and Steve Grind, both a huge part of the stove and cookware design team at MSR, for taking the time out of their uber-busy schedules to come and share part of this event with us!! Thanks, Guys!! Many thanks, also, for bringing all the fun new MSR stoves to share, and for letting us play with them, and ask the myriad questions that you so enthusiastically answered for us!!! Last, Drew and Steve, you Gentlemen are so very kind, thoughtful, and generous, to leave us with a huge pile of MSR goodies to add to our raffle for those that attended the OSG!! Above and beyond duty, my Friends, and VERY much appreciated by one and all!! The Raffle was a huge success, due in large part to your kind gifts, and I'll talk more about that soon! I have a ton of great photos to share, and lots of stories, as well as a complete run-down of what took place at the OSG. But, as we will be up to our necks in getting ready to head to Italy for three weeks of work, as soon as we return home, and as we need to hit the road in just a few minutes, I cannot post that info just yet, but promise to do so before we head to Italy. Even though we're on the way home, and even though we'll be greeted by tons of work to do before we leave for our Italian gig, we are already missing the friends with whom we shared the OSG, both old and new!! Not a sour note in the entire symphony, Folks!!! 8) Those in attendance were: - Bernie Dawg and Mrs Dawg - Doc M. and Sweet Bride - Baja Bum and Mrs Bum - Hiker Duane - Ron PH - Drew Keegan (MSR) - Steve Grind (MSR) - Fuelish (Don) - Uncle Pugsley - Butch (Pugsley's great Dad) - David OR - Russ in California Fifteen, in all, and great folks by any definition, and we already miss you all!! Here's to the next Stove Gathering, be it in Oregon, California, Arizona, or Washington!!! Let's hope we can all meet up again when the next Gathering is planned!!! Take care, thanks again, and God Bless!! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark and Sweet Bride (still in the warm cherry red of OSG "after-glow"!!)
Looking forward to seeing lots of photos from all those that attended. From the ones posted so far it looks like you had great weather and lots of lovely grub!! Cheers, Rob
I had a great time for the few hours that I was at the OSG on Sunday and left kicking myself for ignoring my roofing for a couple of days and camping at the gathering.....Always next time. It was fascinating watching Doc Mark and BernieDawg fettling and listening to their conversations. Russ's photos show people dressed in morningtime warm clothing....There are still large patches of snow inside Crater Lake NP.
Where I went bping before I met up with the crew, had ice on running water up by Bend, close to Broken Top, by the Sisters. Duane
My dad and I had such a good time for the short time we were there. It was so nice to meet everyone.Just wanted to send out a special thanks to doc, thanks to him I was able to fettle my first stove, and thanks to bernie dawg for being a good host. Can't wait to see more pics from the gathering.
