Hi @kerophile Thanks for the link. I understand the mechanism from your previous excellent explanations, but I was interested what you thought was the main factor in that particular case, over cleaning with Brasso being the culprit combined with the manufacturing process?
Hi @Simes, I don’t know the actual circumstances of the the failure event but believe that this was likely a dead stove walking. There was likely a very high level of residual stress in the brass of the tank, left over from the manufacturing process. Once that stress was present it only required contact with a paticular corrosive substance to produce the extensive cracking we see. Best Regards, Kerophile.
