Put an add in Craigslist for brass backpacking stoves with a couple of pix. You know, the wasting away in your garage type. Took a couple of weeks but finally got a response.
A guy had a stove like the 'Optimus' in my add. Wasn't sure what he had but I was excited and hoped it was in my 'price range'. He had bought it a while back and didn't use it. Really didn't even know how it worked.
Wait for it...wait for it... He GAVE it to me. That's free "for those in Rio Linda".
Livin' the dream.


Missing the cup handle. Haven't fired it up yet but I bet It'll work just fine.

You "looked", in a very novel manner, and you "FOUND", in spades!!! Yahoo!!! Outstanding deal, Sir, and well done in all respects!! You might want to change the fuel cap gasket, just for grins, or at least check to make sure that it's soft. Add Coleman fuel, let it set for a bit, so the wick can absorb the fuel, then prime, as the directions will tell you, and go for it!!! 8) About the only other thing that might be needed, depending on if your new Baby was burned dry a few times, is a new wick. Tweek the burner plate is all i'm thinking it needs. Remember this has sat unused for many many years, and may very well "settle in" in short order.

Personally, I wouldn't do a thing to it, until you have fun at least several tanks of Coleman fuel through it. Also, when you put a pot on it, the color and flame size will change for the better, I'll bet. Looks very promising to me, and I'm thinking it will settle down and get blue, after it's burned out the gunk from all those years of non-use. Why not wait and see, before you start "messing" with it?!! 8) Again, congratulations on your gift SVEA 123R! Isn't it nice to have some a fun thing come your way, and for NO coin?!! Doc, I don't have a 2lb peen hammer anyway.
I like your suggestion and that's just what I'll do.
Ran it for about 10-12 minutes last night. Probably fire it up again tonight.

Confused. Both of the 123's I have do not have an 'R' embossed. Just the 123. Do the 'R' models actually have the 'R' on them or is there another indicatior?

Howdy,

Nope, no "R" on either stove. The 123R versions have the internal cleaning needle, as in "Regulated", thus the "R" designation, even though it's not stamped on the stove. Hope that clears it up a bit, as it can be confusing, indeed! Take care, and enjoy that new stove of yours! God Bless!
