    Hi Ian,

Photo's of your Op 8R bnr in Trangia & Op 8R with Enders silent bnr……

I don’t know how you achieved this unique conversion Ian but a great idea brilliantly executed.

    Cheers,

    Rob

I had some adaptors made a few years ago to connect a 111 bnr (LH adaptor) & 8R bnr (RH) to a Nova hose.

    1316805526-Novaconns.jpg

    1316805580-Novahose8R.jpg

The 8R bnr seemed like the ideal size for the Tran 27 windshield set-up. A 111 bnr in there a la KAP Arctic would have been seriously OTT. Having joined burner to pump a simple strip of brass formed into an inverted top hat shape enabled the fitting in the Trangia. I put the Enders silent on it mostly because I had one and it fit; I don't think there's anything to be gained by using it. It is a relatively huge lump of steel which takes a fair bit of heating up. and putting a pan into the w/s over the bnr muffles the roarer to a satisfactory (for me) level. A Primus silent cap or one of Gary's would probably be a much better bet but I didn't have either at the time. I had hoped that with a shortened pump (to fit the Sigg 250ml fuel bottles) the whole issue would fit into the 27 for transport but the bottle/pump assy is just a little bit too long.
I still have it and potter about with it every now and then.

I have an old battered Radius No 20 which I use to boil my coffe on at the weekends, and here's a shot of it I took just the other day.
I have converted it to a silent burner since I only use it indoors:

... couldn't resist trying it out upside-down to see what effect that heavily dished top would have. It flared and the burner soon ceased to vapourise

Been playing with my Coleman Handy Gas Plant tonight, jet change (downsized) to burn kero.

No 'instant lighting' on kero, so I had to pre-heat the generator/burner with a kero blowlamp.

A gallon and a half of kero in the tank, pressurised to 25psi.

Backed off a little from fully open on the generator control wheel, burning well

It's easy enough; I blanked off two of the big slots inthe 8R's bnr bell with heavy foil and fitted, IIRC, a 111T alcohol nipple. Meths likes loads of fuel and not much air.

thanks! i assume a good prime and also perhaps a puff or two from a midi pump?

edit: see there's no midi cap, so a simple prime works!
