Nope. No pumping. Stove was just hot. Ran for about 15 minutes and boiled water during that time frame. However I shut it down right after the pic was taken. Some of those Sveas just burn like crazy.
My primus #5 as I got it needs attention but useable I've just brewed a pot of coffee on it It isn't the most powerful stove that I've encountered though its seen very little use it came with its original prickers in unopened bag
New Manaslu 96. Finally got the burner clean and can now run a tank without clogging the jet. Still IMHO it is a very nice stove.
That’s a lot of power. Nice flamer. Has anyone ever heard of one of these blowing at the seams? I’m sure they are built well and all but if a little svea gives a hard hit when the SRV blows I can only imagine what one of these could do.
@Mark Layman The Primus No. 735 is a kerosene stove. It wouldn’t normally run a high pressure. To get it to the point of boiling the kerosene in the tank and bursting the seams it would have to be used very negligently, in a confined space, and with a lot of the heat from the burners reflected back onto the tank. I once (first and last time!) ran a Hipolito No. 2 (ordinary single burner kerosene stove) with an aluminium folding windscreen wrapped all around it and a pot taking up most of the top of the area of the windscreen. I got distracted by something, and I heard the stove making a “struggling” noise. When I quickly took the pot off and looked down, I saw that the solder at the bottom of the burner riser had began to melt. I quickly released the pressure and let the stove cool down. No damage was done, but if I’d have left it longer, I think the molten solder would have created a pressure leak and the flame would have gone out. Cheers Tony
Yes, I see how that would be the place it would go, first in line to take the heat conducted from the burner, at the top of the tank taking the radiant heat from the base of the pot and above the fuel line, where the back of the joint wasn’t dunked in fuel and kept below the melting point of solder. A good cautionary tale Tony and one I’ll bear in mind! John
Oh geez Margie! Oh geez. Now that is hot. Glad it didn't start going nuclear on you. Back when these old stoves were used extensively and in remote locales mishaps and accidents I am sure didn't get reported. I bet somebody somewhere has burned down a line shack or two over the years.
@Aaron1980 Just a point, the flame spreaders you have are from something like a Primus No.1. The ones for the 735 are tubular rather than flared. Congratulations though on a successful firing and interesting flame pattern. John
Zip 2 burner the heat this thing produces is impressive its at lowest heat and I need to arrange pots beside burners to simmer.
Thanks I did wonder if I had the correct flame spreaders? Do you know if they are available? There are some bad repairs at the bottom of the burner tubes that I need to look at but I just wanted to fire it up before I started to work on it ! Thanks again for the nice reply’s Aaron
Hi @Aaron1980 , best thing to do is measure the minimum inside dia and maximum outside dia and see if you can find a piece of car exhaust pipe of a corresponding diameter. You can experiment with the height of the tube but 1.5cm above the burner won't be far of. Cheap and easy to replace if worn (burned away). Best regards, Wim
