Another vote here for the thermal feedback problem due to lack of threads. Even though the tank get hot to the touch, the fuel still has to vaporize in the generator and the fact that you detect liquid fuel coming out the jet suggests that is not happening as well as it should. I've got one of these but I am not home right now so I cannot check it out. But, it was my impression that the Precise Phoenix version of the 8R, despite being well made, was a little weak compared to the Optimus and other copies. I might need to revisit that with another test or two.
Mine at start up, then after a few minutes. More thermal feedback would be given with a small pot on. Typical of these small stoves used outside. Duane
I have now tried everything I can think of to get the stove to just run consistently over time, but nothing has worked. It has to be the lack of threads and resulting lack of 'thermal feedback' or conductivity. The foil idea did not work, either. If you think about it, the threads represent a substantial brass to brass interface-- my stove just does not have it. The threads are gone on both the stove and the burner bell. I will try to get a photo up soon just to you all can see the problem. Again, thanks for the many ideas. My next project is a non-functioning Primus 96 that I had found long ago... Cheers, Karl
I am probably in the minority, but, I never wanted one of those clones. And, if I had one, I would not spend this much time fixing it. I would sell/give to someone else. A 96 is a worthy stove.
True, if the stove is worthy of said challenge. It is not to me for this one. An old Enders, Juwel, a 22, 111, 96, 00, on and on ... yes.
I don't have one, but the other thing in my mind is that a missing wick could give similar trouble by allowing the fuel to enter the vapouriser too quickly, cooling it down. Similarly you could try slowly raising the throttle settings to see if holding back the fuel flow reduces the liquid fuel surges.
