You don’t need to pull the spindle out unless you’ve got problems in that department.

    Cheers

Pump leather looks serviceable. I soak mine in motor oil for 24 hours or so but other oils will also work.

As suggested, changing the seals is probably necessary. Since you've got it apart, might as well.

Hi all, i'm having another go at fettling my primus 41. I managed to find a tank cap off a primus 624 blowtorch (one with the wings), that being said i'm still on the lookout for a late model Primus 100 cap. I've got a few issues:

    1. The pump is not pressurising. I pulled apart the pump and changed the pump carrier to the correct orientation and reassembled. I soaked the pump leather in a light machine oil it was very very dry. It appears that i'm leaking air either through the pump carrier somehow (see video below). Should i try a heavier weight oil (motor oil or neatsfoot) ?

I did have the valve on the burner tightly closed. I also should have said tank cap seal instead of pump seal for the primus 624 blowtorch!

    2. I'm having a hard time getting the jet out. The jet has been tightened in such a way that i can't loosen it without hitting the riser tubes. Can a universal jet tool get this out or what is the best way to get this out without any damage ?

    3. From what i can gather it appears that i'm missing the cleaning needle (will confirm when i can get the jet out !). Can i replace it with a 111 needle ?

    4. Does anyone in Australia make and sell NRV tools / Universal jet tools?

I spread(mushroom) the pump cup some, does not always stay opened up though, may need to be done again or just replace, all leather is not the same, some cups can't be saved or I'm too impatient. I find some leather does not want to cooperate. Sometimes you can tell when the NRV is allowing air into the tank, takes experience to know, but not always. Keep looking for the jointed jet tool, the bay has some. I think cleaning needles are all the same except for number of teeth on them. When you get a tool, heating up the jet area will help removing it. I use Neatsfoot oil, but motor oil will work fine.

    Hi Hikerduane,

Thank you ! I will try and spread the pump cup some more and see if it helps. At this stage i think i'll try and get a replacement somewhere. Can i just cut the teeth off a cleaning needle to make it fit ? Thanks for the tip on heating the jet area up too, i'll get myself a universal tool.
