I don't agree. Where is the proof of a request? By who? It may just as well have been a marketing decision made by Primus themselves. The evidence of the stove is one thing. Unfounded conclusion are to why it exists is another. 'Made on request' is a possibility - no more. I agree it doesn't have a handle & doesn't need a void but nothing in the pictures tells me the void isn't there as we don't see the entire stand. Do we have a picture of a stand without a void?
Ross, I'm happy this is revisited (sad if/when inaccurate detail is left unchecked). I could further explain my above comments (now in question) but where it's at now imo is to await Arson, What is your recall of Dr Reyes stove re: "Did they not all have that void?" ??? You may not recall clearly and that will be fine too. It's all good. Enrique, If my comments above support your later comments, I want to note for you: I have revisited all I've read / seen on topic (not all open posted). "Upon review", I think I am agreeable with all Ross's above comments and questioning. FWIW and it's me talking, I like to blame it all on Ross whenever possible . Re all things camp stoves and surely Primus & P70/71s... he knows a thing or two, I like where he's going with this. thx omc tag @arson51
Edited: Got a mess with the quotes Got your point @Spiritburner, there are no evidences of special requests. Enrique
I did not properly photograph the stand but it appeared to look and operate like the photo shown by OMC. There is a little gap in the pot stand not necessarily for a ring but the gap was for the spring steel pot stand to securely clamp onto the stove tank. Running my hands over the tank and a short examination there was no blatan evidence of soldering or welding of a ring that previously existed and was removed.
Perfect! Thanks again for Ross wanting this clarification re that gap and thank you Arson for clearing it up, all is good, we learn from each other and from more and more examples. all, Another thing , re my: "...this P70 tank uniqueness, ". Something we do not see reviewing the above P70 and the 15 P70s in the SRG. Something that we do see with review of important manufacturer's 25 catalog ... c1925, the P70 spirit cup is not attached to the tank. If catalog is accurate, there are others that knew of this, I did not, not until now . [[side note It now also might make sense that that type P70 spirit cup was a separate piece for the duration of P70 production run?, but is unconfirmed.]] Considering spirit cup not attached to the '46 tank, the tank is less unique, it also makes more sense if tank is identical to a '46 P71 shorty tank ("70" tank stamping aside)? That said the "70" stamp on tank with "70" spirit cup and "70" vaporizer, for me, has my opinion of legit rare '46 P70 hanging in there. thx to all, humbled omc
OLD THREAD Credit to optipri for info that allows this recap / update: When I posted we knew very little about the Primus 70's rare pot support in OP. Over the course of this last year specifics have been added, a recap: 1927-29 catalog offers a No.70K comes with this support. 1930 Belgium info sheet offers "Primus No.70 with support... which is provided with practical support for pans..." 1931 No. 70, 71 Series brochure Primus offers both: No.70A is 70 w/the pot support and No.71A likewise. thx omc
