Was finally successful in finding a Primus 71 with the optional cookset! It didn't look like much when I got it but it cleaned up quite well. The stove is stamped "AS" which dates it to 1953. But while I was working on it, the thought occurred to me that I had seen pictures of sets similar to this that had a two-part windscreen/pot rest assembly. This one is constructed as a single unit. So the question I have is - am I imagining things, or were there two different versions of this cookset unit?
There are a number of stove/windshield/pot combinations for the Primus No.71. Have a look here. You've done a good job on the alu parts; what did you use?
Thanks Ian, I had looked there but missed the fact that there was a short and tall version of this pot set. I have the tall version (and now must find the smaller version!). So I was not hallucinating! They are wonderful little sets.
Nice Primus 71E Fuelish! You should consider posting your stove in the gallery. Do you have the pot lifter? It is interesting how your 1953 Primus 71 has a safety pin. I have seen others that have no safety pin because it is built into the cap. I guess this is when Primus changed over from one to the other. We talked about the different Primus 71's HERE a bit. Cheers, Jeff
I do have the pot lifter, just forgot to include it. Question: With the older/smaller versions of the cook set, how did one store the stove for travel? Re: posting - I will have to work on my photography skills before feeling competent to post!
The pot support comes off and stores in the lower around the tank. The burner bell must be unscrewed. This made a very compact and neat little kit. Great for motorcycles. It is a shame Primus stopped making them. Jeff
A friend of mine just gave me a 71 she picked up at a garage sale this morning - $5. Very good shape and has the pricker and pot handle. I just searched through the links below but did not see reference to this particular model. It is A/O which puts the date of manufacture in 1950 however it is chrome and not brass. Has anyone seen this model in chrome and are they common? I will be firing this jewel up this afternoon and it will definitely accompany me on future cross country Harley rides!
Great find!!!! Wow you found a keeper. The Primus 71 could come in chrome plated tanks as that was an option from Primus. The chrome tanks are somewhat rarer. Can you take some pictures of your new find? There are several copies of instructions on this site for your stove. Here is one Link Cheers, Jeff
