I'm working on a full restoration of a rather rough PW Model 2 stove. It's really hard to tell the original color. The lid and wind wings appear to have been a dark brown but the body appears to have been black. Body could have been repainted by a PO but doesn't look like it. Does any one have a Model 2 with original paint? This is a very early PW so anything that has a generator is too new to help. Thanks. ps The one Doc Mark posted in the reference gallery is an obvious repaint so doesn't count.
Ken, I've got serious stove envy for your single burner. Keith, Mine's a bit newer (I think) key instead of wagon wheels. Mine is the same as this one, except for color. Prentiss Wabers Model 2 or 3?
If it has key, is a #3, and mine is brown, hang on a minute... EDIT below pics of my #3 . WE WANT PICTURES OF YOURS!
This stove has been on the to do pile for several years. I may have some older pictures but it will take some work to find them. The stove is currently in pieces and slowly making its way through the electrolysis tank piece by piece. Here's the front of the case. There is definitely some black paint on it. I'll try to get a pic of the top which looks more like your brown one. You can see why determining color is a bit of a challenge.
Without wanting to sound destructive, surely the box would have been painted before the company and model plate was rivetted on? Removal of same might well reveal some clean paint colour?
Ok. removing the name plate revealed a small patch of original color. Indeed it was brown. Three cans of brown paint later I think I've got it. Below you can see where I daubed a spot of paint from each can on with a cotton swab to test for a match. Below I've circled the third color daub. I think that will do for a match. Rustoleum Expresso.
It is a No. 2. It has 6" grates, No.3 had 8" grates. This ad clearly shows a skate key on a No. 2. https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1923-prentiss-wabers.38359/
