Q: When is a Primus not a Primus?
A: When it's a camping stove listed on eBay

A recent eBay listing was for a stove just described as a Primus. As is usual, I asked the seller for some identifying info like what was the big number stamped on top of the tank and he replied it was a 6

So, it's a Primus 6 and something I don't have in my collection so I bid and won. This morning it was delivered and... it's a VALOR No. 55 - a model I already have

Oh well, it wasn't a lot of money and is in such a shocking state I'm sure to have my moneys worth getting it working again

Keep watching folks, the 'before' and 'after' pics should be interesting. To whet your appetite here's a picture of the prickers that came with the stove - and the first thing I saw on opening the box:

    Scary eh?

    Cheers,
    John

    hi john

i'm not sure if this has the right burner fitted as it is dwarfed by the stove but here's a Primus No6 next to a Primus No5sor for comparison
i haven't polished it as i like the patina but the No5 really needs some polishing i did start ages ago but got side tracked

Bill, does no look like the right burner to me...too small. Then again with a smaller burner you get longer cooking/boiling times though. It feels really odd looking at it.

PS. As soon as you get your new leather bike 96, do take nice pictures so I can see if it could be duplicated (in real leather all the way).

Doesn't leather have a tendency to corrode brass? Certainly seems to in the knife scabbards that I have....and when I haven't looked at them in a while. I thought the same thing on seeing that satchel but then thought that that one is some sort of made made material.

to answer Ron the minute it gets here i'll photo it and send you them plus the dimensions

    Bob
if i had a pukka leather one it would mean i could leave this one at home and use the leather one on a bog standard 96 and when i get home after a trip rinse the brass under the tap and dry it thoroughly then store the stove back in it's tin
i will use this for it's intended purpose but if i had a replica i think i'd use that instead and save the real one as a collectable

i have my Brooks leather saddle (vintage) now my stove all i need is a Vintage Brooks saddle bag and i'm sorted well unless i get a vintage bike and panniers

how far is Newark ? ;)

    John,

If the jet prickers look like that...you're a brave man for even attempting such a feat...

The prickers weren't pictured in the listing but I have high hopes for the rest of the stove :)

    Cheers,
    John
