Hi Barra, I have a vapo tube like that with a brazed in nipple that someone made and had installed in a Pr 96 . A friend in UK also sometimes makes something similar. The trick is to get the top of the nipple low enough so that it is at nearly the same height as the original orifice otherwise the air mix is well off and the stove will probably run too rich. My thoughts for making model 96 and similar stoves functional again - If I could find the time it might be worth trying to machine and silver braze together a similar vaporizing scheme to these model 19 stoves but with the burner head still removeable which means I would neede the taper at the top. The worst of it is making a tap for the hole for the nipple in the top machined part, AND, the modified stove would probably need a longer preheat because there woufd be more metal to such a homebrew vapo setup, maybe even a double charge to the spirit cup would be required to fire up. Yeah Yak I think your about right. I'll stick to leaving mine the way it is then. If you make a tap be in for one myself. I make the thread 11/64 x 48 TPI withworth form on a rough gauge an eye. What do you measure it to be?? Can get a set made for only $158.00 US Looking for an ulternative. Barra
Hi Barra, It is good to hear from you. You must be just starting or well into your Springtime now. Lucky you ! I looked into buying Whitworth taps once back before I started getting my machine rigged to cut threads about 4 years ago, and was shocked at what seemed to be highway robbery for the taps. It was a sad day and I never checked the prices again. I see things have not changed a whole heluvalot in the Whitworth tap world, hah hah. I measured a nipple and get .176 diameter over the threads so 11/64 (.1719) is probably correct. I think you're right on the money with thinking it is that size. My experience is the Whtworth threads measure larger than the call out dimension, for example the 2 pint burners are 9/16-34 but measure around .570 inch instead of 9/16 (.562). I have only made 3 taps and they were larger sizes so I have no clue how it would be to make a small one but I can guess it would be like a trial by fire, maybe something like when the natives throw the virgin into the volcano to get spiritual blessings. The tap would make it possible to make replacement vapo tubes for 96 models, or a special made cap that could be silver brazed onto a slightly cut down old vapo tube which might work also. It would be quite a project. I took this photo through a scope of the small size nipple like used in Opti 00 etc. and it is 48 pitch as you have measured. I will let you know if I get bold and try to make such a tap, but it would not be for quite a while. Too many projects lately, you know how it is. Cheers & good health, Doug

Its still cheaper and easier to buy another stove uphere, than doing this job! But i would do the same if i couldn`t find parts. I only collect thoose small stoves made for hiking, and the primus 96 is absolutly a favorite, well made and beutiful! Summer... poor you ! Your ?arably just as feed up with the summer as i`m on the winter!We just got the first real snow, roads with ice, rain and snow at the same time, everthing wet and cold at the same time. But i probably would die from that living in tThat heat you`d got!!
I liked the vapo modification you did Barra as shown in the link to Sefas post on vapo tubes. It is a very clean job you did on that one. Uh oh Barra, I forgot, if we went through the fall season already here then that would mean you would be somewhat into your summer already. Enjoy it, you will use less spirits to prime your burners. Johan your winter starts just a little earlier than here. A little snow has fallen about 50 miles more inland, and we are getting the freeze at night.
