Apart from the reference to Liedberg & Bäckgren (As producers of Record) in the maufacturers list here at CCS I know very little about this company. I have been able to trace a “Liedberg & Bäckgren Maskin och Verktygsaffär” (“machine and tools store”) in the Stockholm address calendar between 1893 and 1898. I can’t find anything before, or after, that time-span in the address calendar. The address was “Klara Västra Kyrkogata 3A”. (“Klara Vest Church Street” not very far from Stockholm Central Station, and at that time just a few blocks away from B.A. Hjort’s Maskin och Verktygsaffär at Klara North Church Street!!) I can’t say that the “Record” stove was only produced between 1893 and 1898, just that for the time being I can only trace the company to that period. (Assuming that the “Liedberg & Bäckgren Maskin och Verktygsaffär” is the same company as “Liedberg & Bäckgren” referred to in the manufacturers list.) Anyway, “Record” appears to be one of those short-lived brands that appeared around the turn of the century in the wake of the Primus success. It looks very much like a “Primus No 1” from that period. The only engravings are “Record No 1” and "Made in Sweden". The burner is marked “Record” and nothing else. Flat, unmarked, filler lid and old type of pre-heating bowl and simple feet with a straight cut-of. The legs have the same kinks as Primus legs. The flame spreader is a later replacement (Primus). Interesting Ross! The reference to Nya Excelcior means that the ad was published in 1893 or later. The Record in the ad is of another model than the one in this post. I will come back to that model in about a week (when I get my camera back).
The ad was from 1897. I noticed the burner but hard to make out what the set up is - looks like it may be similar to the Lux cleaning mechanism? I look forward to your next Record post!
