Hi, two weeks ago i received a brand new manaslu 96 from Basecamp, for a long time I wanted to have this little tripod, I was very happy to get it, finally but I?m more than disappointed. At first I noticeced some dent?s on the tin, the windshield and a scratch on the stove surface, this make it unable to use it as a collecting item. As usual I tested it in my fettling room, after proper preheating it did not burn flawless. There where no blue only some orange flames and the burner was glowing dark orange. After using the pricker there where flames coming out at least, but very unsymmetric and yellow. I noticed the pricker is "so fat that it has to be forced into the jet orifice." I went out to coock a cup of tea, but this try failed, withtin 15 it was not possible to boil 200ml water. I trew the warm water away went home. Someday?s later I cleaned the burner, which did not burned longer since 25 minutes, with vinegar. There where some golden metal splinters coming out, I blamed them for the bad performance and tryed to cook pasta. It was possible to make the sauce, even if I was not able to scorch the meat. I was forced to use the pricker serveral times. But cooking noddles was a real horror, 18 minutes to boil 1 liter water inside my mothers kitchen, no wind etc. . (Yes I know there is a pump) After this further bad experience I tryed to clean the burner more properly now I got some black desposite and again the brass splinter. Today I was able to coock a half liter of water but the flame was still very unsymetric , glowing red. I had to use the prinker several times and in general the manaslu don?t perfomed well, far from the Svea 123r I used same time. The gasket between the Burner and tank is damaged, so fuel is getting out very easy and thekero-steams smells very badly. furthermore I damaged 5 Prickers. The kero I used I use to in two largerr tripods too, and they perform flawless. Even in Hiker 111c I burned 2 tank fillings without using the cleaning needle no problems at all here too. Ok this is my tale of woe. In this condition It is not possible to cook reasonable. I never had such a bad performing stove, any comments which may be solve my problem will be very welcome. Christoph, Call or e-mail basecamp and explain your problem. Sounds like this stove was in bad shape from the start. Basecamp sponsors this website so they seem like a resonible and reliable buisness and will take care of your needs. Chuck
Hi, thank you very much for your response. I?ll test the manaslu next week again, when there is no improvement in performance I?ll contact Basecamp. I think it has to be possible to cook at least one meal with any stove without any problems. Regards, Christoph
Hi, after cleaning several times I tested my manaslu two times, and now it work I assume that there where metal splints left form production into the burner. Using the pricker was no good idea because, the diameter is too large (I had to force it into the jet orifice) this may caused new splints. Now I?m using another pricker and it work. The flame is only a bit too yellow, but this may be caused buy the fuel or I enlargend the jet orifice with the original pricker. All in all I?m up to now very satisfied with the stove, It was a real fine cooking feeling. Even it comes not from sweden this stoves has spirit. Regards, Christoph
