I have trouble getting a real simmer with my 111T. If I turn it down far enough so the pot is really simmering, the flame goes through a phase where you can see yellow and orange -- incomplete combustion can't be good -- and then settles down to a wavery blue flame that looks like it could go out in the least puff of wind. I know it's a camping stove, not a gas range, but no gas range does this -- you get clearly-formed blue flame all the way down to when the valve shuts off on ranges I've used. The Coleman 425 also performs better in this regard. Or am I doing something wrong?
The 111's rely mostly on conduction and some radiated heat to keep vaporization going. The Coleman generator is in the flame, so there is no problems with vaporization... Both camp stoves, but different methods !
try a "simmer plate". got my last one from my local pound shop. looks like two circular bits of punched tin with an asbestos substitute sanwiched between them. around 7" diameter. Allows you to turn the flame up until it's steady, but spreads the heat across the bottom of the pan for an efficient simmer.
