    Hi everyone

I don't have a midi pump, but i figured out an easy way to get my 8R to work better in the cold. I bent a piece of piano wire around the fuel tube and wedged a small piece of fiberglass insulation between the tank and the wire. I then spill a few drops of meths down the back of the tank in about a minute this is the result. :D

Now that is bloody brilliant!!!!!! I do have a midi pump but with three 8 R's a 99 and a Svea 123 I like your idea. You can bet I'll copy it and maybe test it in our -40 weather we are having here.

    Great! :o

Thanks for the compliment North61, just make sure you don't place the piece of insulation behind the filler cap. I'm sure it would be okay but you don't want to risk overheating the rubber gasket, the wick in the spirit cup helps too.

nice--and it beats just dumping the meths in the case and fireing the whole thing up.
which is why we see so many burned up stove cases on Ebay..if your out in
winter weather and stop for a hot drink the last thing you want to do is fool around
getting the pre-heat just right--i think everyone uses the inside of the case as one
    big spirit cup--

I'd put the wick on the other side of the tank away from the seam.
Less likely hood of doing any damage.

    Cheers

This is a neat idea, but that's a good point Bruce, although I wouldn't have thought it could harm the seam . . . . it's better safe than sorry.

Off to try it right now. My (brand new) 8R is rubbish at the moment, even with all my lighting wiles !

That is a brazed seam and I would think not at all succeptable to failure from the heat of burning alcohol. Not only that but the fuel in the tank would have to be either gone altogether or heated to brazing tempurature as well. Anyone know the melting temperature of brazing spelter and the combustion temp. of methylated spirit?

Metho is supposed to burn at 750 Degrees
Some silver solders melt about he same temp. But the tank wouldn't reach that high in ..err long time. The nitlrile be well gone by then.

Spelter they use on the tanks don't know. Pass on that one

    You'd know Gerry

    GFY

    It was Just a thought.

I'll have mine on the other side anyway.

    Hi dargael.
I couldn't tell you the gauge, but you can go
to your local supermarket and ask them if
they could give you a couple wire handles
from the strawberry flats (cases). They
    throw them out anyways :D

    Take care
