    Cheers Normo.

It'll certainly be up for inspection - and use - at Newark, Trevor.

Some final flame shots before I put this project to bed.

Deciding that if one burner's good, two's better, I primed both

... and the control knob glued joint held out again.

In terms of burner characteristics I've learned that the red line on the pressure gauge isn't to shout out DON'T GO BEYOND THIS POINT but signifies the optimum tank pressure to offer both a decent maximum output and simmer setting.

For the photos, I'd unintentionally pressurised the tank to a notch or two beyond the red line on the gauge. The only way to reduce pressure then would be to invert the stove before lighting the burners so that the inlet tubes from the control valves would no longer be submerged in the fuel and open one or both control valves to reduce pressure. I didn't bother doing that and went ahead with the photos.

Although a reduced flame was possible at that pressure, a reliable simmer wasn't. Another time, another tank pressure, I'll get the simmer shots.

Cheers Stu. Certainly high on my list of favourite 'exotic' burners. Tilley CS56 and that Handy Gas Plant you put in my direction are up there too.

I'm not the first to say it on CCS by any means, but the variety of alternative solutions from manufacturers to get the same end result never ceases to amaze me. Some weird and wonderful solutions too.

Still reeling from the news of the loss of Steve (Shed-Man). As I was playing with the Lawson, mesmerised by the flames as you say, it was appropriate and pleasurable to reflect on the good times in his company. Just last year at Newark, sat alongside him in Ross's excellent 'beer tent' it was Bialaddin bowl fires as I recall - plus Steve's sloe gin - that had us mesmerised. Fine man.

"Iani? With news of Steve (Shed-Man)'s death so recent, shame on you for indulging in another pop at me Ian. If that's a measure of your grieving, shame on you. A bloody disgrace."

The shame is all yours Presscall, for thinking such a thing.

    Just stating fact.

    Iani,

I am truly baffled that you continue to be a member here at CCS. Far too often, your posts are inconsiderate, thoughtless, and negative, instead of doing what the rest of us do, which is to support and enjoy what our CCS Mates are doing. Your behavior here, is often quite troll-like, in fact, and you seem to delight in name-calling, and poking holes in other peoples happiness. I feel sorry for you, and wonder just what has happened in your life, to make you such a negative and discourteous person. This will be the last time I respond to any of your posts, and I know that this comment will do no good whatsoever. But, as John is a friend of mine, and as CCS is a place that I very much consider my "home" on the 'net, I could do no other than to speak my piece, this one last time. I wish you well, but fear you would rather drown in your own negativity, than actually be a productive and happy part of what goes on here at CCS. You bluntly made your comments regarding John's fettle, and I am responding to you in kind. John did not deserve your negative comments, but you, Sir, more certainly have earned mine.

Thanks Doc for your support and thanks too to BernieDawg for setting his thoughts out about the 'repair won't last' comment from Iani. Thanks too to those who weren't inclined to express their support in a public forum but by Private Topic - if not in this thread then on the previous occasions when Iani's had a go at me and my work.

I wish that Iani had had the courtesy and courage to respond to my offer a while ago to talk things over in a PT rather than a public forum but my offer went unheeded. I don't think he even opened the PT in fact.

One day maybe I'll get Iani to let me know what his beef is. Seems a while ago now that when he joined us, with Steve (Shed-Man) at Newark after I'd laboured long and hard and at no charge to fix his Aetna stove burner he behaved as though we were best mates and I was glad to have his friendship. I haven't a clue why the relationship soured so badly but it's not something I've knowingly sabotaged.

    A mystery.

Whatever, I know I'd thought I'd put this fettling thread to bed but I wanted to test my theory about pressurising the Lawson fuel tank to a point no greater than the gauge red line indicator to get optimum simmer and maximum flames.

It worked, but I'll add the photos when it's dark on the patio.

Meanwhile, some shots of the heatshields, which are quite crucial to the safe and effective operation of the stove.

As you'll see from the photo sequence below, on the tank-side the heatshield prevents the pilot flame from impacting on the tank and the one on the other side of the burner prevents the pilot flame on that side from disrupting the vapourised fuel stream from the jet

    1398021424-2.JPG

    1398021430-3.JPG

    1398021437-4.JPG

Here's one of the jets, having a threaded extension on which a brass nut clamps the heatshield as a barrier to the pilot flame, which impacts on the vertical face of the heatshield and heats the jet and exposed vapourising tube but doesn't get beyond that point, so doesn't impinge on the jet outlet

    1398021443-5.JPG

Right, tank pressure optimum, I'm off to get those night shots!

Well, I must admit that I have missed most of those "Inconsiderate and thoughtless" posts from Ian.

I have seen a couple of posts from him lately where he mainly just spoke his opinion, and I can't see why he shouldn't be allowed to post those even if they perhaps don't follow a certain "standard procedure" of cheering and applauding as soon as someone present a thing made by them self ...

The post in this particular topic is not inconsiderate in any way as I see it.
Perhaps just a bit too straight forward to be considered comfortable in some peoples eyes here.
In reality he is just expressing how he feel about this particular fix-up.
Mind you: As he sees it!
And hopefully he is entitled to express that very belief as long as he isn't hurting anyone, right?

If he shouldn't be entitled to express those feelings or thoughts... well, then this is not the place I believed and hoped it was... :-#

By all this I am not saying that I don't think John has made a sterling job with this stove.
    On the contrary.
He truly has, and I'm impresseed!

I just think it's strange that someone can't make a post where he question the methods in doing some repairs or fix-ups, without immediately being jumped on because he doesn't automatically fall in to the common hallelujah chorus.

I should applaud what I interpret to be an attempt to be fair I suppose, Christer, but you're taking the content of Iani's comments in this thread in isolation and overlooking or discounting what I've said about a succession of snipes and put-downs.

Since Iani's contributions to CCS are otherwise almost exclusively posts of his stoves of the format - pictures/no caption/no chat - it's noticeable that he's targeting me for whatever reason for his rare forays outside of that forum.

You're not doing your job as a moderator, Christer, if you're willing to comment as you have without doing your research. Check with Ross and Trevor eh?

    You said of Iani,

Anyone but me is that, Christer?

The tank pressure needs to be on or just below the gauge redline. The heat-shielded jet outlet makes it possible to open the control valve during the priming phase (alcohol in the priming pan) without risk of underburn

Agree 100%. It seems to me, with respect to Iani and Presscall, the part of the job that involves moderating civility isn't getting done at this forum. There is an easily observed pattern of chronic baiting and disparagement going on. It's seemingly being ignored by mods.

It's my opinion your public online remarks above are poor form for a moderator, Christer, and completely unprofessional.

In my opinion it's a mods job to be awake and aware at a forum, not just present once in a moon. Coming in late to the party seems to me a poor excuse. In my opinion, no one should have to spoon feed a mod what goes on here. Wake up! Whine less.
    Sheesh.

Worse yet, Christer, your reference to a 'Hallelujah Chorus' as a characterisic response to a post on CCS falls well short of the true picture of what goes on here and does you no credit.

It's certainly not remotely the reason I or most contributors make the effort to post stuff. No, I hope to prompt a discussion, preferably something reasoned and constructive, to help me learn more from others' thoughts and to enjoy their take on things. Case in point, this nonsense about "who's said what to who?" has led to me overlook Kerry's question about the cast iron stove frame's enamelled finish - just a wipe over with car polish, Kerry. More stubborn dirt responded to metal polish.

Incidentally, I've not approached Ross or any moderator to intercede in respect of Iani's behaviour, but I've responded to comments made to me on occasion - so it wasn't a case of leaving either of you out of the loop. There was no loop.

You see, Christer. That's exactly the unproductive and unhelpful message that is not infrequently sent by CCS mods when faced with criticism. It's why a lot of posters here are simply too afraid to speak up. They don't care to have snide comments directed at them from unprofessionally behaving moderators whose idea of moderation is to laugh, mock or intimidate opposing viewpoints into submission.

How your reply(s) makes anything better in this thread or helps Presscall or anyone on the forums other than your self is beyond me to understand. Of course, given the time of day where you are, I could easily suspect your tone is alcohol-fueled. :-k

Given the tenor of your earlier posts, I'm of the opinion some booze-talking is highly likely. And, that's not a good thing for someone who is supposed to be moderating.
Just my opinion, of course.

I hope Presscall will keep doing what he does here at CCS. His posts are great! But, I wouldn't blame him a bit if he walked away after treatment like this from someone who is supposed to be a mod.

For goodness sake people! I've only been around for about 5 years and find it so disappointing that we have to be so damned nasty to one another. I am a member of a couple of other forums and I never see such sniping on them. Iani, if you haven't got something nice to say to someone then bloody well SHUT UP..
