Can we tidy up this thread to the pertinant information on a stunning stove and lock it down for a time please?

The glue, give it a whirl to see how it copes and report back in a couple of months  :content:

    Nice resto!

    Alec.

Yeah, hopefully one of the real Moderators will get round to doing it in the next few days, Alec. ;)

It won't be me, though - I've far weightier matters to attend to for the foreseeable future...

    I cant help it.
I thought moderators were meant to be above this type of comment.
well at least they are on every other forum that I am a member of.

 Relax, it was a joke, Kerry - you need to read the emoticons (the little yellowheads) as well as the text. Then you also get the context in which the remark was made... 8)

some jokes don't read funny no matter how many emoticons you put after them .

    I am relaxed.

I believe you need to read it from another persons point of view after what has been said previously.

    I stand by my comment

Well, I'm sorry you don't see the humour, Kerry.

I have read what was said previously - some of it aimed directly at me. But you've gotta keep smiling, eh...

Takes one to know one, right?
I guess that if I were a real moderator, I should moderate that uncalled for insult on my person from you, and perhaps ban you for a day or two.
Personal attacks like that should not really be accepted, but I don't really care what you think about me so it can pass.
If you had said those things about another member, though, I would have warned you and removed that insult.

And when it comes to the very issue that I should have been under alcohol influence, I must disappoint you. Sorry.
I'm on call this week, so no drinking what so ever for me. I was actually called out just before the time when I wrote my views in the posts above.

At the start of this thread Presscal demonstrated a stove that I will call unique because I have never seen a stove even close to this before Either here or anywhere else. He has done a fantastic job or restoring it even if some of the methods used are different to what others would use and at the end it runs and runs well.

Why is there so much in this thread not related to that stove?

Why has this turned into WW3?

A few people need to look in a mirror and ask themselves whether they really needed to post what they did. I don't just mean those that have a history of questionable posts, I'm including people that may never previously said a bad word in their lives.

    Hi, All,

I will make a short comment regarding something that was bothering me about some hinted accusations made in this thread. In all the years I've known him, Christer has NEVER shown even the smallest hint that he has, or had, a drinking problem. I was greatly saddened when a fellow member hinted that he might have been into his cups, when Christer made his comments and therefore, not seeing things clearly. I went back to re-read Christers comments, and whilst I don't totally agree with them, could find not a single comment that would lead me to believe that he was inebriated in any way. As for me, those sorts of accusations should not be made here at CCS. People can be mad at each other, if they wish, and people can disagree with each other. But calling someone out for having a drinking problem is not germane to this discussion, nor productive, in the least. Just my two cents.... for what they are worth.

I'm sorry, Christer, that you had to endure such a comment, as you did not deserve it. Take care, and God Bless!

    Mark

Okie-doke. If, in fact Christer's comments were not fueled by alcohol, then I sincerely apologize. I thought surely that with the light of day and some cups of coffee to sober up a bit, that Christer would rue his extreme statements made in the wee hours of his day.

Knowing that those comments, those aggressive and demeaning and unhelpful comments were made with a clear mind and by someone who is supposed to provide a model of decorum at the forums is even more distressing.

Other mods have chimed in with no offer of help to resolve the chronic issue that Presscall is having with a mean-spirited member. Instead it's a joke to them.

Several posters have pointed out there is a problem, but the mods seem to want to just shout down or ignore the problem.

This thread should alert all on this forum to exactly how little one can expect reasonable moderation when someone here at the list is in need. (If I read it correctly, it has already done so for some.) But, of course, as I have seen many, many times over the years, the thread will eventually be sanitized in such a way that the mods unprofessionalism will disappear. This message and my comments about the mods will disappear. All the strife will be erased.

Sadly, I fear even more valued members will also disappear now that that they have seen the reality of what CCS management is about. :(

I've no problem with alcohol either. In fact, I get on with it rather amicably. By coincidence with Christer's situation I too was 'on call' and teetotal over Easter up to today and a lunch-time drink was justified, the weather warm and the ale excellent - more of that in an 'Action Gallery' post shortly

Not the ale speaking here I assure you, but just a note to affirm my faith in friendship, Ross and his brilliant site, the Moderators and all of you good people - including Iani if he'd just drop the pratting about and go back to being a CCS chum.

    Best wishes all.

    John

PS. Go to it whichever Mod David had in mind to sanitise the post. It's the British way after all. Under the carpet it goes!

Hmmm...not the first time we have had such an arugment. I have been on the butt end of some ugly comments, too, which finally died down but resolved nothing. Sadly, it is our nature to turn on each other occasionally. After being banned for a week by Ross for something I felt was not of my causing, I decided to mostly keep my opinions to myself. Not always, but mostly. Ross and the Mods are people too and have failings like the rest of us. BernieDawg and I can again communicate with civility but Zincman and Iani both seem to view me as a moron. No matter. I can ignore them if I so choose and suggest maybe we add an ignore button to the site. It might short circuit further confrontations.

John, the Ale looks quite nice. I am a fan of Boston Lager which is about the same color.

Is Tracer coming with you Wim?

I'll be absolutely delighted to see you there. It was a 'Primus' beer you brought last time I recall. I'm still looking for those elusive Townson & Coxson ales ...

Yes John, Tracer told me he'd like to join me again. As he's very busy at work he says he will really enjoy a break in good company! Let's hope the weather will be good, 2011 and 2012 we had lots of rain and wind (to bad I couldn't make it last year). Oh btw, the Primus beer and glasses was 2011, would you like some more of these? I'll also make sure to bring some of my favorite local beer  .

    All the best,

    Wim

I'm moreso a teetotaler BUT i just bought some sloe gin and I'll raise a glass as per a request for stovie brother Steve and to John's CHEERS post too, well said.

CHEERS John 'n all! John your work, illustrations and civility shine thru as THE brightest spots in this, your topic, good form!

    > I only post now as this may all be edited and whatever happens fine by me but mine is mostly non-stove.

    > John & iani have a familiarity and issues for which there are 2 sides and a stated confusion about it. John took offense to iani comment(s) and John's unanswered "PT invite to Iani" is significant imo.

Iani prods into John's topic yet ignores his PTs. I can see how that is considered a bit of dirty pool. Maybe that's the basis for John to make a specific request of a moderator in light of that.

    > This is my only forum, in this topic, I'm supportive of the site and the mods. I've not heard thick skinned CCS intends "to be like other forums". I esp support Christer as I see it he spoke up for iani WHICH was clearly not popular but he didn't see him as a problem per say and may have sensed a piling-on, I did (the several personal attacks later were not from iani).

    > mods are in a "no win" if they intervene more it's not popular, they're intervening less here and not popular. I prefer a tendency of less vs too much.

Unpopular with some for sure but if Christer is critical of a "Hallelujah Chorus", sorry but I can see his point and this category is "for fettling advice" (plenty of chat elsewhere, as a newbie I frequently posted in forums I shouldn't have, I hope to do better adhering to this myself).

From this viewpoint: If CCS's VERY best fettling topics had all the "thank you & praise" posts clumped into 1 post at the end, IMO that's an improvement. I've sent dozens of thank you PTs on topics I'm somewhat familiar.
I say something along the lines of THANKS or Great Topic !!! Thank you for sharing and all your effort. Often saying I'm sending the PT (not posting) cuz I don't have a question or substantive contribution I just want to thank YOU! We HAVE frequent examples of OPs, then in-topic, acknowledge supportive PTs they've received, or not.

My impression is maybe John's onboard in this post, [the thanks] ...is not the reason he posts. [he] "I hope to prompt a discussion, preferably something reasoned and constructive, to help me learn more from others' thoughts and to enjoy their take on things." Well said and me too.

Jesus Christ, that is bad paranoia on your part.

You are the last person I thought of as a moron.
