If I get a short ban for saying the following so be it, it has to be said. The last 2 pages have absolutely nothing to do with the subject in hand. If you must have a gunfight at the stove collectors coral please do it in another thread. Then those of us not in the firing line can avoid the crossfire (I'm not being aimed at am I?).
John, Excellent restoration of a beautiful stove. Your work is much appreciated. Love the flame pattern on those burners. Thanks, sam
G,,day. having read all of this again, this time slowly and in full . previously just reading each comment as it was posted. I believe I did take David Shouksmiths comment the wrong way . I am not making excuses for what I wrote, nor have I been asked in any way to write this. I just believe that if you say something wrong you should admit it. I believe some others should relook at what they have said. I will leave it at that for now. cheers kerry
It's a shame to see the tone deteriorate in the reference sections of the site. It's bad enough in the Lounge. A fairly recent development - a 'new' hobby coming to maturity? This sort of crap seems fairly common in other, more mainstream interest groups sadly. As a rule now, unless something is overtly personally offensive I leave it in place. It then shows the poster in their true colours for all to see - depending on your subjective view that may be good or bad of course. Action has been taken over similar but more extreme instances like this in the past but bans are very rarely permanent & not generally with the knowledge of the general membership. Do we need to be harder on plain snarky, bad mannered behaviour? If you feel we're doing things wrong please feel to free to give us your opinion - but preferably in the Lounge or Feedback sections. This area is for reference & this will be my only post on this thread on the topic. I will not be locking the thread though - could be more reference material added in future. Any sanitising of threads hasn't been to cover up any unprofessionalism by me or the mod team. It's been to clear pointless crap out of a thread & was done with best intentions for the good of the site. Feel free to bookmark this thread to see if any things gone in a years time. Same with any thread. Make a complaint if it does. Sparky - don't worry about it. As much as we hope things can be kept civil, very few members will be universally popular. I'm not - doesn't bother me as I didn't set up the site to win any popularity contests. I've never even made runner-up! Yes - we have lost members. Probably true that some of that has been down to how the site's been run. Sad. But we can't please everyone all of the time. There have also been plenty of losses due to simple clash of personalities. Two sided to most stories. For every member who contacts me with tales of how many members have been supporting them privately over an issue there is usually an unsolicited pile of support on the other side of the fence they are not aware off. I've been told by more than one member that the site is a sinking ship because of the way it's run. Not according to the stats I see. We are a reference site however & the amount of info around this hobby is finite so maybe we will tail off eventually. We are a small team of mods with busy lives. I don't think any of us claim to be 'professional' & I don't believe any of us have any or much experience of the job outside of CCS/CPL. For most of the time ours is a housekeeping role thanks to the way members usually conduct themselves. It would be nice if we could be aware of every issue or nuance of friction on the site but I think it's unreasonable to demand it. I'm sorry to see some of you feel we have failed on this occasion. All that said (& I need to stop rambling as it's 2:40AM), as alluded to above I do welcome discussion on how the site is run on open forum. I'll open a thread at the weekend for this purpose.
Well, that was an interesting read. Can't see the control knob coming apart any time soon. Done similar things myself with hardwood and glue, and they've stood the test of time. Welding cast is a skilful affair, and the qualities of the metal can vary dependent on its age and source affecting success. Keyed in as it is, I reckon that resin repair has a good chance of surviving. Brilliant restoration Presscall, love the flame shots - more images for wallpaper! - And great photo shots.
Hello John, Yesterday I shot an Lawson-Stove in the Bretagne and after that I took a Look to CCS. Oh Yeah and thanks for the many detailed Images so I have not many work looking how I get not killing it by fettling. The wooden Knobs looks like these on Ekinox-Stoves from the Mid 20th and if you take a Saerch on Ultimheat for "Ekinox" you will see the Paralells on the Heat-Exchanger for setting on the Stove. The Ekinox Burner looks like the Lawson but have not the Shut-Off-Valve. I hope the Transport from France to Germany dont brake the Castiron or more... Cheers Peter
I'm glad you got that, Peter. I saw it when first advertised (remaining unsold first time around) and wrestled with my conscience, "Do I really need two, even if it is a grand shade of green?" So pleased common sense prevailed. Now a fellow stovie has the satisfaction of putting life back into a classic and enjoying that stupendous flame show at first hand. Take a look at my post on the Lawson in the Stove Ref Gallery ('America'/'Other') for more info. I'd love to hear from you on how the project progresses and I'd be glad to help with any questions you might have. John
