forum question. I have 2 Stesco ,in the can stoves .One is made in England and is in a b/w can .The other is in a red &yellow can.It is marked on the bottom of stove "STESCO", Seabury & Co . Los Angelas. Is this a stove made by Stesco in England and distributed by Seabury & Co . ? Any one with info on this I would appreciate. I'm going to sell them and want to properly ID the stoves. Thanks Bolichek
There are at least a dozen brands of the Stesco coilburners. Most were made in Japan. The labels I'm familiar with are" Stesco, Handy Camper, Lil' Injun, Lil' Injun Scout, Scout, Camper, and Handy. All are identical, none are much good even when new. Some of the canister tops are somewhat domed, some are flat. Check ePrey for current value, which unless the particular specimen is pristine is minimal. In my opinion the main collector value is in the myriad brand names and label colors and variations. The instructions, often printed on the canister, call for either gasoline or kerosene. Trying to use kerosene is invariably futile as there is insufficient mass to vaporize even Coleman fuel (white gasoline, or naptha) well. Good luck. Gerry
Hold on there Bolichek I presume you mean stoves like these: Most of the Stesco stoves were, I think made in the UK. It is true that they are temperamental stoves but they are coil burners and coil burners are unusual and often sought after. Some Stesco stoves were manufactured outside of the UK. I also have a mint one in a yellow and red tin which was manufactured in the US. Instead of being nickel plated, it is plain brass and looks fantastic It is true that clone stoves had a variety of names, but I think that Stesco was the original. By the way, they never use paraffin (kerosene) but were designed to use petrol {gasoline, or in these days, Coleman Fuel (US) or Panel Wipe (UK)}. If I can lay my hands on my US Stesco, I will post some photos.
Trevor, Thanks for the reply. One of the stoves I have is exactly like your 2 nd picture. It has the "stesco " and underneath "series. The opposite side has "made in England". The can is B / W .I t has the igniter, hole cleaner ,minus the wire and the 3 holders. The stove in the red &yellow can says Stesco on the BOTTOM of the stove .it has "US PATENT APPLIED FOR " Seabury & Co. Los Angeles USA .All onthe bottom of stove .There is nothing on the sides .they are both brass. It is a Stesco stove but where it was made I have no idea. That's what I'm trying to find out. Dennis
