It’s something else. Did You Know? The 16.9 mile “Valley of the Gods” dirt road is not suitable for full size rented Winnebagos. I had to call a tow truck for a Brit family w/ kids. No cell service at that spot. They were stuck good about 10 miles from the nearest pavement, about 40 miles from the nearest recovery service. Not sure what the charge would be in a situation like that. Probably not cheap. It was a minimum $500 for a tow from Elephant Hill up in the Canyonlands, but that was 30 years ago. Another Brit couple, transmission went out on their rental jeep. They were not amused as I recall.
Even a lot of Americans don't realize that their American Automobile Association towing package usually ends where the pavement does. After that, it's between you and the towing company, and since you're the one who's stuck, it's not cheap. ....Arch
Well it’s sort of comical, but I try to temper this natural amusement with the knowledge that I too, can get stuck. Ended up in a sticky spot on a narrow ledge really with my trailer, the exposure was horrendous I thought, with no way to back up and no room to pass if another vehicle is traveling the other direction. What’s really sobering, while I think some of these “roads” are practically insane, some guy will come barreling along hauling a flatbed on his way to work. Must be a shortcut. I found myself often over the years thinking “There’s no way they could put a road through *that*! ” goes right out the window, Utah and Colorado have some doozies. Had the road been recently graded the Winnebago folks would probably have been OK, I suppose. What is passable one day can be impassable the next.
Used a yard sale black and blue Sears made 1 69. I eat every day and enjoy using camp stove and taking photos, simple as that. Smoked brisket from Easter and my sourdough bread.
Another rainy day in SoCal, don't think we have had a full week where you could not say that this year yet. Cooked up some green chili chicken soup and toasted some corn torts for topping. Did add some masa to give it some body. @Remus1965 had your gifted chili out but 2qt CI can only hand so much. Will get use that is for sure. thanks. Used a Turner Brass Works stove 1161 from the 30's. They are world famous for those brass handheld blow torches. Also made some lanterns. Daryl wet SoCal
@Daryl I'm sitting on the couch with my phone sharing the screen on our TV so the wife can see your photos....she says that when you get the chance to try that chili you'll like it. Food looks good though...windy as hell here by the beach. When I make that chili I usually use beef chunks with onions and garlic... Can of sun vista pinto beans...can of that chili...bottle of herdez tomatillo green sauce .. hominy...and simmer it for a while... Ends up real good Jealous of the stove...and the calmness.... I'm up to my ears in projects hahahaha I think I'm on 5 projects and I got to plan what toys I'm bringing to Yosemite
No excuses, I eat daily and use this 7 74 pea green Sears to do the cooking. Started with some french fries, dogs and eggs and finished with mac & cheese with spam. Wife helped with the eating and made the mac & cheese. Sons birthday is this week so had a zoom call birthday. Daryl sunny SoCal
Cooked up some jambalaya which does not need bread but what the hay. Used 413D and oven for some apricot pecan crumble. Had a little rain while rice was finishing on that simmer plate. Sourdough at least for me has a mind of its own and will proof sometime slowly and sometimes quickly. House must have been warmer and was ready a day early.
Treated myself for breakfast. Instead of my usual muesli I decided to do a fry up. And since stoves are meant to be used I used my Optimus 22
Big ol 426B cooked up a banana upside down cake and some chicken and noodles with peanut sauce. The 426B has plenty of space for oven a large fry pan.
Used the Tibco to make basic fried mince with a side of broad beans. The right hand burner needs work as it wouldn’t vaporise fuel properly and therefore light. So I had to swap the pot and pan between the working left burner.
Happy wife happy life, right? Wife wanted breakfast for dinner so what do you do. Being Mother's Day I pull out all the stops and pulled out a can of Spam from the cupboard which by the way had a best by date of 2028! Kept the splatters outside as usual and used an Optimus No. 7S stove. I left it in the DIY wind screen I had made a while back since we always get a bit of a breeze in the afternoons. As you may know big fan of Tator Tots since they are ready to go so fast.
Some prep work for a party tomorrow. Chilli for 20 on a Heinze Geniol: I’m very impressed with the stove - just like cooking in the kitchen. -R
