Seeing @Yannick Michel mini oven put to use got me motivated to try out this idea and see if it works. Added a little sugar to some strawberries and pineapple for the filling. The topping is bisqick, sugar with a little sourdough starter added. Took about 25 minutes to get a little browning on top. Wanted to use small singles for the experiment and happy with results. Coleman folding oven would have worked but was trying to keep thing on small side. Figure it will work for reheating leftovers too. Daryl sunny SoCal
I decided to give my newly fettled Turm 36 spirit stove a proper work out - steamed veg on the left, ham in the pressure cooker on the right: -R
@IRM good food- and good use of the Turm. Pressure cookers are handy things! Meths ranges may be a slow and pricier way of cooking, but utterly reliable and completely drama free.
Eat daily and make this chorizo and egg mess almost weekly. Sometime with french fries and other times with tator tots. Used my lunch box 111B for the cooking. Enjoy, hot SoCal
Apple pie in the Ovenette. I usually go inland a few miles to avoid the wind. This day was calm, so I stayed close to home.
@Remus1956 forgive me for going Green. Put some of green chilies you gifted me awhile back when we did some selling/trading. The simmered pork shoulder, onion a green chili turned out great.
@Daryl AHA! You have now joined us in the Hatch green chile cult! Glad you finally cracked that one open, lemme know if you need or want more...woud be happy to send you a few more jars. I get them from Clovis New Mexico.
There are lots of regional chiles in New Mexico. (All the same speciesHatch has the best PR, but I'm sure they're all good. I can attest that Sandia chiles are excellent. ....Arch
Why it took me so long to crack that jar open is I have my own 'regional' chilis in my backyard that I can attest are excellent too! Kidding aside those half dozen plants do keep me well supplied all year round. Only used 1/2 of the jar and the other 1/2 in in freezer waiting.
Maybe some pictures of my 'regional' plants will help. Nothing too exciting as you can see. Last years plants took off once the hot days of August were over.
Hard to tell scale in that last photo; is that a tomato on top? Under it, the two on the left look like serrano peppers, and the green one? Maybe a jalapeno; maybe a pasilla that didn't get very big. (Pasillas are often used to make chiles rellenos.) Your plants look really healthy. ....Arch
Arch, my home-grown stuff never grows big like the stuff you see in market. That was a small tomato about 2-1/4 inches. Believe the small red chilies are California or Anaheim and the other one is a Poblano. Yes, chilies are small and are some of the first off the plants. The 100-105F heat has really affected the plants causing stunted growth and sunburn. Chilies will turn red when mature but that usually does not happen until September/October if left on plant. this picture was taken 10-25-23 with mature red chilies and this was the tomato plants 3-10-24. My tomato plant suffered in the summer heat and came back to life last September and left me with green ones all winter.
I need to start growing peppers and tomatoes again. Mine have never gotten real big either, but they sure taste good! ....Arch
