Practice makes perfect! Spring is around the corner and I got a new tarp. I 'practice' cooking noodles about one a week in the back yard so I will be ready 'out in the middle of no where'. enjoy Daryl sunny SoCal 20200207_115532.jpg

Getting ready for this weekends hike so I cooked some gator sausage fried in bacon grease and eggs for breakfast. All that was missing was some cheese grits. The Optimus 8R did a fantastic job.

And here she is on the trail half way during a 12.8 mile hike at the shelter. It was 30°F that morning when I fired her up and cooked the gator sausage.

Supper was three cheese gnocchi cooked in my MSR 1.9L Alpha pot with some coffee to follow in the GSI Glacier kettle (one liter)

@Ed Winskill Hi Ed. Gators are very popular here in the panhandle as we have a hunting season for them and some restaurants actually serve it exclusively during the hunting months and close down for the rest of the year when the season is out. I bought this at our local grocery store. It has a natural casing and as with most no or low fat wild game it has other meat added to increase the fat content. In this case they have added pork and used a pork casing. The seasoning is reminiscent of that which you would find in american version of italian sausage but slightly different. Sage, thyme, and rosemary type of seasoning. When I go buy some more I can take a picture of the label but it is very generic due to being made in a "cottage kitchen". It tastes amazing especially when fried in bacon grease. Perhaps I can list the ingredients off of the label for you also when I get some more.

Looks good gents. Can't wait to get out and use some of mine. Also, Cookie, like that GSI kettle.

    Cookie,

110 film indeed. Water was taken from the stream. Packed in Spam, some bacon, couple potatoes, and if I remember a couple cans of corn. Can’t remember what else we ate. 2 nights out. Would enjoy being 23 again for more reasons than one.

Enjoying my Cook Quick No 12 Okeeff & Merritt. No 6 Griswold pan is about right size for this little stove. Sausage, peppers, onions, eggs and tator tots were enjoyable also! Daryl sunny SoCal 100_4854.JPG

Is that a IHMSA steel target you got there on the table ? Used to try to hit those guys with a TC Contender 25 years ago.
Is that what was called the "chicken".
    Btw nice cooking.

Great kit. Love the veggie oil in the squeeze bottle, assuming that's what that is.
