@Rob McMillan , You have some great info, already, but here are two photos that show a Max Sievert folding pricker, and the measurement of it's "prick(er)". Sorry, I couldn't help myself!! You will see that there is some leeway in this sizing, as other info gives slightly different info. I am sure all of it will end up giving you what you need! Good luck, and have fun! Thanks Doc. I read another post about using guitar strings, went upstairs and found that my high E string was what felt like a perfect fit. That’s .010 gauge. Which is 10 thousandths? Whatever that is, I have many feet of it if anyone is in a bind for jet wire!
I found that a medium set of acoustic guitar strings, the 1st or high E is still too thick. .013" or .33mm, at least for the Svea.
Based on collective feedback and prior posts I’ve seen, a guitar string of .010, or the high ‘E’ in a light set of strings is ~.0259mm and the next string up (‘B’ string) is .011, or ~.0279mm. Doc’s stove wire measured at .0125, or just under ~.032mm. The .013 medium guitar high ‘E’ string comes in at ~.033mm. Some stoves have larger nipples. That high E worked for my svea 123. YMMV! I’ve read that they wear to a larger size over time. This is the first I’ve read that they clog to a smaller size. I get the concept. Have you seen it happen? And what’s the stock opening for a svea 123? I Couldn’t get the .0279 ‘B’ string to go in.
And ... the wire should be straight. This is a steel wire going into a brass jet. Obviously, if bent, it could cut the sides of the hole more than the straight one would.
I usually use, for the 0.23mm jet, a 0.20 high E steel guitar string. For a 0.32mm jet, I have plenty of prickers. The 0.20mm wire works well on those jets between 0.23 and 0.32. Avoid a pricker that shaves the jet. Cheers Tony
