During the month of September I have discovered two of these little gems.

First, I was finally able to locate my first Sievert 123 at an attractive price. I have been on the lookout for one of these little gems for quite some time, but to no avail. Found this one on Craigslist and called. The picture only showed the stove, and not well - so I had the seller describe it, and with that confirmation got excited and made arrangements to have it shipped to me. The second stove I discovered in the garage of a local estate sale.

Here is a picture of the two stoves.

And it came with a spare burner assembly - new, unused!

The only thing missing was the original instruction sheet. A lovely little stove! I am guessing it was made some time in the mid '60s.

The second stove was a bit of a mistake. I was rooting around in the garage at a sale and picked it up. In the darkness of the garage I thought it was a Svea clone but decided to ask the price anyway. Bought it and discovered when I got it in the light of day that it was a tidy little early 70's Svea 123!

It doesn't show much sign of use, so I am guessing it spent most of its life in the garage. But the best part was...

I need to find a casino close by!

Noticed that you live in Portland. I live in Vancouver, WA. Are there any local "stovie" groups or get togethers? Nice finds!

Happy SVEA 123 Month. I too celebrate your amazing good fortune, Sir.
I finally found my misplaced 123. I now observe I have bent the burner shaft about 10 - 15* away from the key side. It will be a first-step fettle, I intend to get it hot then whack it with a very light hammer in the opposite direction before it cools. Bought this one at The Kelty Store, Glendale,Cal, in 1970 for $8.95. No etching on the windscreen, same pot handle, [but mine is well coffee-stained] and the poker also says Sievert, but is corroded [from caffienic acid?]. Same key type as on your Quarter Special. Had it out brewing up a moka espresso unit yesterday. Works good still. Even better if you swing the low side of the bell/flamespreader into a headwind. No pics yet.
    Later, Brian

I'm in Tacoma; work in Olympia, and it happens I was in Vancouver twice last week, and twice the week before, and will be next week, and probably the week after that.....we ought to set something up.

I have a case going to trial soon that is sending me down there a bunch lately.

    Greetings, NW Lady!

Welcome to CCS! I can heartily vouch for Ed, as I've known him for many years, and have met up with him, and his wife, a couple of times. Great folks, both of them!! He has been a member here for, I believe, longer than I have and is a stalwart contributor, and well liked by all who know him. I know you will enjoy meeting him, as have my wife and I!! Here's a shot from one breakfast/lunch meeting we did together, many years ago (Ed's the big guy on the right, and I'm the stubby little guy on the left! ;)):

Again, glad to have you here at CCS, and please post often! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,

    Howdy, Taku,

Flat-out OUTSTANDING find on your part, Sir!! The older Sievert SVEA's are my favorite, and though you should have worn a mask, and used a pistol, to get that other one for $0.25, VERY WELL DONE!!! Thanks for sharing your good fortune. You have just proved, once again, what I always say, "The more you LOOK, the more you will FIND"!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

I am actually looking to make October a Svea month for me. Nice post. I will gladly pay you $1.00 for you second beauty - quadrupling your investment in a month is not bad!

These are what I was referring to in the other post. The Sievert 123 and the Optimus 123. Both very well made stoves. The Optimus is very undervalued in my opinion. The Sievert may be overvalued. :)

Fun to see that pic again, Doc! Thanks for the "recommend"....

I was down in Phoenix, Arizona in the Spring of '08 taking a deposition and it so happened that Doc was there at the same time...we had met for the first time a bit earlier when he and his SB were in Tacoma and Debbie and I met up with them.

Mark, we do need to figure out another meet-up.....

    Evening, Ed,

We would LOVE to meet up with you and Debbie, again, and this time, dinner is on us! We "almost" got to plan to trip to your area, but the gig fell through, and so we'll have to wait a bit more before we can enjoy that meal with you guys. But, we WILL get it done, and both SB and I very much look forward to it!! Talk soon, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Mark

Thank you to all. I have already received so much kind help from this group. A pleasure to meet all of you. If there is ever a meeting or event here in the Pacific Northwest of USA, I would love to know about it. It has been a pleasure!

Ask Ed to help set one up.
It's a great area to meet.
