Pulsing is normal. Runs pretty good for a first firing after unboxing.
Since you don't know what the PO tried to run it on, burn a few tanks of good clean Coleman gas, and your white tips should get bluer.
    It's runner and a keeper.

Put a pot on it and the pulsing will clear up.

    Thanks guys, appreciate it.

I think I'm gonna clean this one up a bit. I like patinas okay, but this thing is darn near black.

I'm going to try to just wash it off first. If the black comes off, maybe I'll leave the patina.

Remember, no ammonia-based brass polish -- like Brasso. It cracks the metal at temperature.
I use ketchup. Really, it's usually free at fast food joints, non toxic, water soluable.
Not Sgt Carter inspection shiney, but it cleans up with a nice patina.

Without that flutter, or pulse, it wouldn't be a 123...

I'm aware of the normal pulse, as I stated. I'm talking about every few seconds you can see the flame get larger, then smaller. Not the normal pulse. I agree though, that running it for awhile will make it better. The tank was empty when I got it, but still moist with white gas. I need to check the fuel cap seal as well. Probably the culprit.

Last time I polished a tank, on my 45, I used a few slices of tangerine. Worked like a champ. Followed by Mother's mag polish.

I was going to buy some citrus, then read about a lemon working. Didn't have any lemons, but had a few tangerines. I couldn't believe how well it worked.

try the dunk test on it fastest way to find the leak. but you are probably right on the money by replacing the fuel cap gasket.

Replaced the fuel cap seal. She was dry, for sure:

Uploaded a few videos. This is obviously after the seal change. I put a pot of water on it. If you notice, I paused the video a few times. Every time it returns, the flame has gotten better:

Restarting it, after taking the pot off:

Also, I noticed the burner was slightly askew. I bent it back to where it needs to be, aka the middle, haha.

Burning good , It never ceases to amaze me just how simple and efficient the design is . When I told my daughter she could have any stove and cookset I have for backpacking . She picked a 123 and a Coleman Max cookset when I asked her why that one she said ,"It only has 1 moving part" I see that stove in photos on every trip see goes on . Another generation that appreciates simplicity . WR

The SRV in the filler cap is a little known bit to keep in fit condition. Other than that, yes, it is an easy and simple stove to repair.

    Thanks man. Amazingly simple.

I noticed this has the square hole SRV. I need to order the tool from the FB. I wish he carried the penta as well.

It sure is. I'll order the three way soon, if the mail ever gets back to normal.
