    Greetings, All,

Thanks to the kindness of our of our members, I now own a nice, large, SVEA military Meths stove! Stefan and I did a little "horse trading", and we're both quite happy about it!

In any case, Stefan had told me that the large SVEA Meths burner, marked with the Swedish Military crowns, and a date, would easily fit into my Optimus Loke 85 stove, and darned if he wasn't right!! I'll post photos of that a bit later. Right now, here's the burner, and also a shot of it with a regular Trangia burner, for comparison.

I think I have an Hungarian Meths stove upstairs (or SOMEwhere!) which has a simmering cap that might fit this burner, and if not, then I'll cobble one together, as simmering is very important to me. I look forward to seeing how the performance of this larger SVEA Meths burner compares to a regular Trangia burner. Thanks, Stefan, for a good trade!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Doc, are those special? I have 3 of them, one for each of my Swedish Army Mess Kits. I don' think the simmer rings fit the military burners.

    Howdy, Sparky,

You are right that the regular Trangia Meths simmering rings do not fit this larger burner. But, the one I have in mind came from an Hungarian stove, which is larger, if memory serves. Hey, if it doesn't fit, I'll cobble something together, and already have an idea of how to do it effectively. I'll post photos and a report, after a bit of business work on my part. Thanks, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Consider a mason / canning jar ring. They come in at least three sizes (regular qt., jelly jar and wide mouth) and one on them might fit. You probably have some of those jar lids around the house. I've never tried it, but if close in diameter, it might work.

I think I was told here that the military version did not have a simmer ring.
Bet 2 pieces of flat metal could adjust enough to work.

    Simmer ring thing-
I cobbled this together, it worked okay.

I think I would look for an even lower profile can for the next one. Maybe smaller holes or no holes on the sides at all.
Mark, Show us the Loke! :-)

    Morning, Randy,

Great idea for a simmering ring. Interestingly enough, I have a can of green chilis that I set out last night, and was planning to make some eggs, with green chilis, and Italian sausages today for breakfast. Then, I was going to use the can for some experiments similar to yours, but with a single, permanent slice taken out of the top for my simmering setup.

Alas, today does not offer time for stove play, as we are in the "last minute dead rush" for an out of town job. Hopefully, early next week, I can add the big Meths burner to the Loke, and share some photos. I also have to show two different size pot sets that originally came with, and work with the Loke, too. So, fun in store, just not today. Thanks for the link on your simmering ring efforts, and well done! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Mark

But won't that simmer ring rise too tall to put a pot above it?

I've read that the Tatonka simmer ring fits the swede military burner very well. Though somewhat pricey for my budget.

 hey I figured out how to use this new system! on the Swedish meths burner ,a canning jar lid works perfect just remove sealing washer rubber ring, I added a large paper clip for a handle, I drilled two small holes on the edge of the canning jar cap, raised the area between the holes with an ice pick, gently prying up ward, then threading the paper clip through both holes, this allows the paper clip to fold flat, and to fold out for a handle.. don't use bare fingers it gets hot! I use my leather man pliers, have a good day

Here's where you can get it in the US on ebay.
