This is an external NRV Svea No.5 from a date somewhat later into the 1920s than was once realised. It is an example which sports a genuine Svea burner of a type which I had not seen before, but which must indicate the first stage of Sievert Svea moving away from their previous iconic tube burner design. The latest documented date we have at the time of writing for the external-NRV Svea No.5 is 1924 ((c/f 1924 Svea catalogue (Italian) | Classic Camp Stoves). That 1924 catalogue, however, does not show any other silent burner units other than the old tube-burner type, either fitted or as optional spares replacements. The only logical conclusion therefore appears to be that this stove dates from a year or two later than 1924, but this must have been absolutely the very last hurrah for the external-NRV Svea No.5. The silent burner unit that is fitted is a clearly marked Svea-made product which mirrors the then already well established Primus pattern. The size and configuration of the fixed ring burner top set up is identical to contemporary Primus practice. The only significant difference being the wider splay of the outer skirt which has a full 80mm in diameter. I believe that this is the only time this format of fixed ring Svea burner has appeared in the gallery. Unfortunatley the original top cap was missing so it has been fitted with a modified core-plug replacement, a perfect fit from a stock originally made for use on fixed ring Primus No.5s.
1924 (N) was the year that Primus changed over its silent burner design - perhaps Sievert kept a close eye on this change and followed suit immediately!
