A question Doc - I know sizes vary from UK to USA. I'm 45" chest & XL. Can you give me a gauge on what size to get based on yours please?
Hey, Ross, I don't like my T-shirts tight, and prefer them loose and baggy. That being said, I'm 5'8" and weigh about 165 lbs, broad shoulders, and fairly large neck (to hold up my near empty noggin)! I wear a US size 42 Regular coat, or maybe a tad larger, depending on the cut. I wear XL shirts, T-shirts, and sweaters. I surely wish I had a photo of us standing next to each other, when you came to visit a while back. I could better judge our sizes, relative to one another. Just judging from memory, I'd say that, unless you've gained a ton of weight, an XL would probably be good. However, if you're a bit bigger than me, or gained some weight, you might consider getting size XXL. These T-shirts are 100% cotton, and unless you are careful, they will shrink a bit. I "almost" ordered XXL for myself, but thought better of it and stuck with XL. I can measure the one that Ken sent, or the ones that I ordered, and post comparative sizes of each, if that would help you. Just let me know. Talk soon, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Mark
5'11" & 220LB. But loosing it slowly. I may plan ahead & get the XL as I aim to be 170LB this time next year!
Ross, You might consider the XXL, due to shrinkage in the 100% cotton. Since I've not washed any of these shirts, it's hard to say just how much they may shrink. But, I'm guessing that they will, in any case. 'Course, maybe you like a tighter T than I do. But, for me, I'd rather have one that's a tad too large, than one that's too tight, and for me, uncomfortable. In any case, I should have the two XL's I ordered, in a few days, and I'll make some measurements, and take a few comparison photos, if that will help you decide. Even if I only had an Old Goat T that didn't fit, I might consider framing it, just because I love that drawing so much!! As an aside, the Old Goat T-shirt would be an outstanding addition to the items offered for sale on CCS!! (Hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge!) [If it can be done legally, of course....]. God Bless all us Old Goats! Every Good Wish, Ol' Doc, the Ol' Goat!
The custodian let me in to my place of work today, and aside from the catch-up stuff I was there for, I also cleaned up the graphic off the t-shirt photograph with an eye to ordering some custom t-shirts. Now, this evening, I log on to spiritburner, and what do I see . . .? I THOUGHT I did a fair job in Photoshop, but now I see that I lost a lot of detail. I'm going to have to order myself a couple of those shirts as well! I had no idea you all would take this crazy whim of mine so seriously. Thank you all. By the way, growing up in Murphy NC, Ashville was THE big city. I remember hitch-hiking there as a teen-ager to spend my hay-bailing money on an MSR stove and a Lowe internal frame pack. I was a real weird kid in high school. While everyone else was into cars and deer hunting, I lived to backpack on the AT.
That is a darned cool graphic!!! Is the source a secret Ken? I'd like to know if it can be ordered directly. ATB, Randy
Disregard my last, I reread and found one of Mark's posts that I'd missed the first skim through! Got it. Mast. :-)
@ATin1988 It's certainly created a buzz! It's great we can still get these. I've contacted who I thought may be the artist but not heard back. I see Doc has spelt their surname differently so I may have contacted the wrong person anyway. An artist friend of mine was going to start doing a trace & re-draw from the image you posted but I'll put that on hold until I get a t-shirt. I've been looking for a suitable tattoo for 33 years! edit: Thanks Ken for being my US shipping buddy! Looking forward to getting this.
Ack. I did NOT find it anywhere online. Magic T shirts through Mast or otherwise. Someone please send me a link! (I may be deterred by price, but I'd like to see the thing available! Cool shirt!) Thanks, Randy, who might get to the top of a mountain at least a couple of more times. :-)
Send me a PM if I can help anyone get one. And actually, I got them in Waynesville, NC where I live. Almost an hour from the 'Big City' of Asheville. Ken in NC
Greetings, All, This morning, I got a note from one of our fellow CCS members, asking if I could please take and send him a clear photograph of the Old Goat T-shirt image. I have a bit of a problem with that, and so I'm including my response to him. Please give it some thought, and see what you might think. To me, it's a fairly straight forward situation, but you never really know, these days..... I look forward to reading your thoughts about this, Gentlemen and Ladies. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Here's my response: "Good Morning, Well, I "can" email you a clear photo of the Old Goat T-shirt. But, the question is, "should" I do so? As I wrote in my comment to Spiritburner (Ross), IF it can be LEGALLY copied, then yes, of course, no problem there. But, as the artist still has his name on the T-shirt, I assume he's still receiving some sort of payment for using his art. As a former professional musician, of 30+ years, I am very sensitive to "theft" of the intellectual property of another artist. I guess the question is, what does the original artist say about copying his T-shirt? I'd like to know that, before becoming yet another leaf on the internet piracy tree that seems to be growing in leaps and bounds. I'll have to do some thinking about your request, and will post a note about it on CCS, too, just to see what others might think. For me, IF the artist is still involved with his original property, then we should not be copying it, but rather buying the T-shirts from Mast Store Outfitters, and thereby supporting the original artist, who's work we all love so very much!"
I believe the image is in the public domain for the following reasons: The image is signed " Nicholson 1978" without the © symbol. The use of the symbol © was required after the Copyright Act of 1976. It wasnt until the Berne Convention in 1989 that this notice became optional. (important due to the legal requirements at the time of creation).
Greetings, Actually, the T-shirt is signed thus: "© 1978 Nickelson" Looks like it's covered under copyright law, to me. Others, may, or course, have a differing opinion. I say, let's find the artist, and get his thoughts on this. Otherwise, copying it, without his permission, is nothing less than stealing it, IMHO. Respectfully, Doc
I realize this feed has long been cold, but I thought I would give it a shot. My father purchased this Russ Nicholson shirt back in the early 80's and although old and worn, he still has it thirty-seven years later. I have been searching high and low for a replacement to this shirt and then I stumbled across your thread (three years too late!!!). Has anyone else had any encounters with this particular print? It would be amazing to be able to see my dad's face if I were to find this! And I'd love to purchase one for my sisters and myself for sentimental reasons. I'm more than willing to call the Mast Stores mentioned to try to run this shirt down, but I was just curious if there had been any recent sightings. Cheers!
I wear them often. I think I have at least 6 of them. @Doc Mark had some shipped by Mast General Store. I know they still carry them. Place an on line order, let me know if I can help. Ken in NC (20 minutes from my Mast Gen Store )
Ken, I appreciate the response. This gives me hope. It doesn't appear they carry that print online but I will try calling some of the stores tomorrow to see if they have it in stock. Just out of curiosity would you recall whether Nickelson is also the artist of the included picture? This is a second print I'm trying to run down that I believe was purchased around the same time. Regards, Shannon
