Soerensen Back in December I asked a question about a Shmel 3 my wife had found in Russia whilst searching for a PT-1 for me having had to travel there to tragically bury her mother who had returned to visit and became trapped by covid and bad health. Wishing not to expose herself to infection she only visited one market and found the incomplete and beaten Shmel rather than a PT-1, but for the price of a couple of beers and the fact that wifey was willing to lug it back to NZ, I was very happy to add it to my collection Harder had responded to my Shmel questions along with Bastian who identified the missing parts, thank you @Sternenlicht Harder then sent me a PM with an offer of an unfired PT-1..... offer accepted Thank you Sir!!! So Harder's tracking updates kept me up to date, and having told our postie that I was expecting a package I was very happy when he swung into the driveway late arvo today..... with a grin he says he "I've two packages"...? First one was the well packed (thankfully, as it's seen some loving care during its travels lol) PT-1, the second was a collapsible Coleman oven I had almost forgotten I had ordered, been busy.... So it's been a unintentionally good stovie Xmas, my daughter had searched second hand shops for stoves and gave me a Osiris brassie, wifey was released from 14 days Managed Isolation on Sunday after her return along with the Shmel, which having cleaned it with vodka in the absence of anything better, passed through 4 countries and flights, and today the PT-1 and Coleman oven arrived I had read Harder's previous advice about "Content Description" for international shipping and smiled when I saw it today. So now I have the conundrum of whether to fire the PT-1, Harder says flame away, but it will be my only unfired stove and I have a well used Opti 8 and Shinabro clone........ what to do.... Anyhoo here's the unintended Xmas booty. Harder, your package at 18,000kms beat my only other import of a Coleman 500 from Mr Alexxx by about 6000kms lol. Happy New Year all. @Gunner I think in general people in here are a decent bunch - always ready to help out. I knew zilch, when I started on this a couple of years ago. Now I know a bit more thanks to a lot of the good folks in here - and I’ve made good friends in close- as well as faraway countries like kyrgyzstan, Aserbadsjan, US, Canada, NZ, Poland, Columbia, Lebanon to mention a few. In light of all the help I’ve been happy to receive in here - I try to forward some of it to others, so that they may find the same joy in here as I do.
@Harder D. Soerensen - I remember reading a book written by Richard Bach (who wrote 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'), in which one of the characters made a couple of points. One was that members of the same family are not always born into the same house; the other was that your real friends will know more about you two minutes after you first meet than your acquaintances will know about you in a lifetime. I recall the idea being that no two siblings are born into the 'same family'. It's a comment on the different subjective experiences undergone by siblings in the same family. But many are born into the same house. I am sceptical of the second maxim. I have a few close friends that took more than 2 minutes to get to know. Or even considerably longer than that.
Yes the knowledge and advice freely given here is an unmeasurable source of assistance to someone like myself with limited knowledge, resources and experience to share in return, for that I thank everyone. Unsolicited and generous offers of enablement with collection additions as those of @Harder and @MrAlexxx have come as humbling and amazing surprises to me, for that I thank you both. MrAlexxx, whilst this latest importation may have beat that of the beautiful 500 for km's traveled.... you will always remain my first....international enabler When discussing collecting gpa's with a non collecting friend he made the comment that it seemed there was "quite an international fraternity involved in the hobby". You can pick your nose, but you cannot pick your family. There are no "New, Old friends". It takes time and experiences. Each of my younger sisters were born in a completely different family than I was, or the sisters that came before them. And different homes, too, cuz we moved a lot.
