Hi Guys, a pal of mine just contacted the last producing-brand of the borde-stove, Fa.Norbert Baader in Kilchberg/Swiss to get some fettling-tips. They told him, that production was ended and that there will be no more borde-stoves or spareparts in any way - so the ones, being traded in some shops right now will be the last original ones ever. This shop does have still some stoves and spareparts: Last bordestoves here! Sorry for posting a commercial link, but this is last chance to get an original. Good luck, Björn
Good Morning, Born, Many thanks for letting us know the bad news. I had hoped to get a spare flame spreader for one of my Borde stoves, but Mr. Bader never responded to my letter to him, which I send in both English and German (with the kind help of a CCS Friend!) Would it be possible for you to see if that company has a spare flame spreader/regulator for sale, and if so, what they ask for it? I would appreciate any help, or info, you might be able to share with me on that. Thanks, again, for letting us know about Borde's final demise. Sad to hear, that's for sure. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hmm. Not good news. Maybe I should have left mine unfired. I saw three brand new Bordes in Japan in October, but they were $245.00 each. Maybe I should have picked them up. HJ
Hi HJ, I wouldn't mind picking one up also, so if you are going to spring for one maybe we can save a few bucks by ordering them together and save a little on the shipping. If you decide to, please PM me and we can look into it. Have a good evening, Dan
Ah, yes, that will definitely drive up the price of Borde's once it is no longer in production. But a lot, make some profit in 5 years time if you have the cash Ron
Hi gouys.. I looked on their onlineshop, it states that they only ship within Switzerland.. Bu I guess that a nice letter, in Your best schoolgerman, might be helpful.. I tried mine, so I will see.. Best regards Uffe
Here is how much German I know: German speaking person: "Sprechen sie Deutsch?" Hikin' Jim: "Nein." That's really about all I know. HJ
HJ knows more German than I do. If anyone figures out how to get the company to ship to the US, I would be interested. Its one of those stoves I figured that I would get sometime and it looks like the time is now. Steve
I was on the site this morning using Google translator, but could not get past the check out page, so I gave up. Then I noticed Riddarn's post, and realized it was futile anyway. Might blow myself up with one of these toys anyway, so maybe it's for the best!
Got that right! I did have a German girl friend for 5yrs. The blond beauty, those were the days! She would have had this handled in 5 minutes! not to mention all the other things she could do!!
Well, I know where three new ones are in a shop near my parents-in-law's place -- in Japan. With the exchange rate (as of October), they come to about $250 or so each, not including shipping. Too steep for me, especially since I've already got one, but if anyone's really serious about getting one, I could look into it. HJ
Hey, HJ, Of all the Borde stoves in my "Family", only one cost near that much, and that was bought to help a friend in need. Otherwise, I'd not have spent that much on a Borde. BUT, if they are now going to be discontinued, AGAIN, and this time, maybe, for good, I "might" consider spending big bucks, if I didn't already have a nice Borde family. 8) IF I buy another one, it will be one that I find at a swap meet, for far less coin, I'm thinkin'! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. I would LOVE to find a replacement flame spreader/regulator, however, for the one on which the cleaning needle broke off! Probably no such luck, however.... The proverbial needle, literally, in a hay stack, as it were!!
Yes, and with time spare parts will only become dearer still. Do you think the star wheel/regulating needle is steel? I suppose something could be custom machined. Actually, I've got a friend whose father owns a machine shop. I should ask him about that. It's such a delicate part; great precision would be required. Probably not cheap, but maybe less than $250? Don't get your hopes up, though. I almost feel bad now that I used my unfired Borde. If I had known that production had been discontinued, maybe I'd have left her unfired? Not sure. I had been wanting to try a Borde for some time; maybe I'd have given in and fired her. Boy was I sure tempted when I saw not one but three brand new Bordes in that shop in Japan. Then I looked at the price tag. I wonder if they'll ever achieve the status of a 199 or something. Maybe someday I'll regret not having purchased them. HJ
Jim they have already acheived the status of an Optimus #22. As to if they will ever reach the height of an Optimus #9, , dang but i hope not cuz i'd really like to have one. lance
Jim, the beauty of these stoves is in the use of them! I use everything I have with very few exceptions. If you want to invest, it must be done in volume to make any difference in your personal wealth. Just buy the best, and enjoy it, let your kids deal with the value at the end. Having it and not using it is kind of a tortuous ordeal! I think
A #9? Wait a minute, the money is getting shorter and the stove gotta-have list isn't shrinking any. Income tax refund time only comes once a year. Of course if I claimed one more, I could take home a little bit more each check.
