Love all of the stoves here. Richard did you make that grill yourself? If you did great effort, I want one.

    Hi Stove Brothers,

I've been too busy to post recently (just lurking) , but I couldn't miss "The Great English Stove Shoot". :) My only British stove is this Burmos 21 which I recieved from PaulB at the last Northeast USA stove meet. Exeter Yak helped me bring it back to life by finding and soldering a micro crack in the pump tube. This old girl is now one of my favorites. :D

Is there a better way to celebrate St. George's Day then with a Brew Up?

Best wishes from across the pond,

Smashing good effort from all posters previous to myself.
Afternoon brew-up in that silly big former Colony across the pond.

Sporting newly-fettled stainless potlegs and a Paul Revere kettle.

    Does it qualify?

    Hi All,

Fantastic to see all the English stoves in action. Thanks to everyone for joining in the little bit of fun, especially those non English folks who still took part after David "Alf Garnett" Shouksmith's posting   Thanks for all the nice comments on my display and yes, it did generate a mighty roar and attract a few comments from the neighbours! If you'd asked me a couple of weeks ago I might have said I've got about 15 to 20 English stoves. Mmmm, it appears I have a few more than that.......

Barra, I too like the RM "210 alike". Mine burns really well and it's quite controllable. The windshield is one of the most wonderfully over engineered designs, but the little door is also very practical!

Manny - great to see your Burmos 21 in action. I've got two, neither of which I could get working in time for the shoot. I'm interested in your comment about the micro crack on the pump tube. One of mine continually loses pressure and pushes out the pump rod. I had the NRV in and out more times than I care to think about and finally came to the conclusion that there was an issue with the tube itself. Then the other one I own has a nasty solder repair to the filler cap as seen here. It appears that even with that amount of solder whoever "fettled" it didn't get rid of the leak so both my 21's need some redemial work beyond simple washer replacement.

I think my favourite family is the Monitors. They came up with some really nice designs that went well beyond mere copies of the Swedish stoves. And their tins for the 96 type stoves really are my favourites. And Ross, I always forget just how large the tank is on the Valor Packaway until each time I get it out for a look!

Not the best pic but you can see the distinctive filler pump arrangement for ergonomic stove use!!!
I reckon it'd go well in a windscreen tin and be easy to use.

Enjoyed the shoot and seeing some stove!!!

Sorry these photos are a little late.
St George's day was also my son's birthday.
I spent the evening with him and so did not get around to putting the photos on the forum.
A few days late, but better late than never.

For St George's Day I decided to give my Villiers a chance of making me a cup of tea.
The stove is called a 'MAR-VIL' and was made by The Villiers Engineering Co Ltd of Wolverhampton, England. I had never lit this stove before and so was looking forward to see how it performed.

The stove comes in its own case.

The lid opens to reveal the instructions.
    Vill_02.jpg

Removal of the pan support reveals the burner, fuel tank with valves, hand pump, funnel and spanner with jet pricker.
    Vill_03.jpg

When assembled, the stove looks like this.
    Vill_04.jpg

    On goes the kettle.
    Vill_05.jpg

    The flame is blue.
    Vill_06.jpg

    Before long, the kettle boils.

Pour water into a Classic Camp Stoves mug containing a tea bag.
    Vill_08.jpg

Add a drop of milk (still delivered every morning in a glass bottle by the milkman) and a perfect mug of tea is made.

Not really - the Flanders and Swann ditty is very much of it's time but was only a bit of fun, even then.

Perhaps you never saw them... CLICK.

    Hi David,

I was in error in associating you with Alf Garnett. The Alf Garnett character was designed to be laughed at, but unfortunately became something of a folk hero for idiots that shared the same view. Therefore the reference probably doesn't have the same comedic connotation as your Flanders and Swann reference.

I apologise for any offence this might have caused.

Very nice stove Trevor, and not one I've seen before.

Presumably this is the same Company more well known for making mopeds, motorcycles and 2 stroke engines ?

    ;) ;)

Sorry about not joining in chaps but I was in the Algarve. I did have a large drink of Gordon's gin and tonic though. (Schwepps full leaded of course) and if it's any consolation I think St George is also the Patron Saint of Portugal.

Here's the RM brewing up a few months back. I haven't got any decent piccies of late I'm afraid! (I cropped this for my display pic)
