Welcome to CCS and I’m most grateful for your fascinating input on the topic with all of that detail. SAFA still going and with original tooling for the base eh? The group boil-ups sound like a lot of fun.

When last I looked, pretty well. Good reason to get the Thermette out of storage soon for a boil-up.

Thanks very much for the link. I like the gentle, non hard-sell tone of the advertising,

which answered a question forming as to why I’d pay double for the copper version. Certainly the copper one I have has ‘paid off in the long run’ in that it’s lasted well!

If you're in the USA you can pick one up for the buy-it-now price of $99 on eBay. With $18 shipping it's a pretty good deal.

Out looking in second hand shops today --- i now own a thermette quite a large one that i didnt know existed gallon-- 4.5 litre capacity needs a good clean and chimney swept as its very well used

 

Would anyone be interested in me doing a video on my one? Maybe a comparison on a twig fire and a trangia?

 

Well I made one

 

Just managed to find an original (I believe 1950s) Thermette here in the UK. Fired it up alongside my Sirram Volcano kettle! It came with a rather nice crudely had made canvas carrier. It’s tin rather than copper so the first batch of water was somewhat rusty brow!

 

I love the internal bottle and burner bayonet lock of the Sirram. That said one advantage of the Thermette is that it small breather hole means the water doesn’t spurt out the spout (if overfilled) which as the photos show the Sirram is prone to!

I’d love to find one of the early copper Sirram’s one day!

Great thread. In the UK also and recently found a similar Thermette on Vinted. I would be interested in your thoughts on it's age. Looks original.

 

It’s a 1953 registered design, manufactured thereafter, production run duration unknown but we’re not exactly swamped with survivors.

 

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it would be best not using it then and keep it for posterity?

 

@ptr10001 It's clearly been used so I'd be using it occasionally rather than every day. Get some enjoyment out of it.

If anyone is interested there is a different design Thermette on the large auction site at the moment in the UK. Nothing to do with me but thought I would mention it in case someone is looking for one.
