Like Keith, I never use steel wool on stoves, no matter how fine the grade.

I know a number of members who do and although in photographs the cleaned stoves appear fine, in reality there are fine scratches all over the brass which are most easily seen on the fuel tank.

However . . . . . . . . I also know of members who use fine steel wool and their stoves look fine. To do so they spend a long time polishing out the fine scratches of the wire wool.
To me it would seem sensible to NOT have the fine scratches in the first place.

But there again - each to his/her own!

just tried a bottle of polish called noxom that did pretty well on my 8r tank. still has rust stains here and there where the rust from the case dripped on it. you can work it wet with a tooth brush, clean it off and repeat till you like it. then wipe some more on and let it dry up a bit and buff with cotton.

I use Autosol. I find it the best polish sold up here in the cold North.
